President's Message
Hola -
It's finally getting cool around here. As a Florida native, I still enjoy a little cold weather once in a while. It helps bring local folks out to Ybor City for a hot café con leche or a bracing libation or two. And, for our northern guests, what we experience as "cold weather" doesn't come close to "cold" by their standards.
Michele and I took the long MLK weekend to visit my sister and her family in Tallahassee. It's always great fun to return to the Capital City to check out progress, since our last visit. Tally is pretty quiet this time of the year, since it's between football season and Legislative session. The "big talk" in the Woolley household was their upcoming trip to Tampa to be in the Rough Riders' St. Patrick's Day Parade. Uncle Bill is the official padre for Springtime Tallahassee's Krewe of Andrew Jackson.
While relaxing, I managed to catch an episode of Emerald's Florida, sponsored by the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association. Our Chair, Andrea Gonzmart, was demonstrating to Emerald the right way to cook paella - good job Andrea! While you're watching TV check-out the Chamber's new Public Service Announcement (PSA) running on Bright House Networks. Tampa Digital and the Chamber's Marketing Committee did a wonderful job on this project, funded by the Hillsborough County BOCC. This professionally done PSA shows Ybor at its very best.
The winter tourist season has begun in Tampa Bay and our foot traffic has picked-up quite a bit. We are in prep mode for Gasparilla, the Knight Parade and our own, Ybor-based BB&T Fiesta Day, now in its 66th Year. If you are interested in having a booth for Fiesta Day give Michele a call at the Chamber at 248-3712 x25 or email her at mkeating@ybor.org.
Ciao, Tom Keating
