Tom and I love to go to the movies. It's a great way to escape and one of our favorite movie houses is Muvico Centro Ybor 20. Located on the 2nd floor of Centro Ybor, Muvico offers first run movies in a cool and comfortable setting. You know you're not in just any movie theater as soon as you walk in. The Mediterranean décor features tile, rod iron and warm colors.
In addition to great movies in a great setting, Centro Ybor offers an extended concession menu and for those guests 21 or older, you can enjoy premium cocktails, wines and beer in their full service Muvi-Bar. Now that's a treat!
One of the best things about Centro Ybor Muvico is their people. General Manager, Robert Boles and his staff are always ready to help out the Ybor Chamber, from donating movie passes for the Oktoberfest Pub Crawl Prize Patrol to providing their first floor Box Office for this year's Guavaween, they are truly our partners.
It is so much fun after work to walk from our office to Centro Ybor Muvico, buy a big tub of popcorn & a soft drink the size of which will soon be outlawed in NYC, plop down in comfortable stadium seats and take in that movie you have been dying to see. Oh, the perks of working in Ybor!

The fall "holiday season" is off to a great start with the 3rd Annual Ybor OktoberFest Pub Crawl under our collective belts. Seventeen member pubs, patios bars and sundry watering holes entertained over 350 guests in the Historic District. Chamber Board member and owner of J.J.'s Café, Joe Vigliarolo said, "You can't beat the kind of promotion that brings customers right into your business."
This has been a truly outstanding week - your Chamber received two spontaneous rounds of applause - one at the Guavaween Merchant's Meeting at the Italian Club for delivering a successful OktoberFest and one at the Gaybor Monthly Meeting for transforming Guavaween into a festival that promotes Ybor City as a "live music destination."
However, the best thing that happened this week was the opportunity to take a "wounded warrior" and guest of honor for the Navy Ball to lunch at Carmine's Restaurant. Joe and Colleen Derbak and their escort Lt. Lockett from the Navy's Safe Harbor Program enjoyed our unique cuisine and special brand of hospitality. Both Carmine and Gino came by the table to welcome our party personally.
I hope that all our restaurants, bars and clubs will take full advantage of the new Guavaween model that provides free-flowing access to the Historic District. Please encourage your guests to come in costume and let them know that they cannot leave your premises with an alcoholic drink in-hand.
A special thanks to: Guavaween Chair Marc Hamburg and Co-Chair Angela Rodante and their Committee; Phil & Sean, principles of Brokenmold Entertainment, our production company; and all of our participating Ybor "music venues."
I would also like to acknowledge our sponsors: GTE Financial, ticket sponsor; Centro Ybor, stage sponsor; Bud Light Platinum, costume contest sponsor and the Hilton Garden Inn, hotel sponsor. Media Sponsors include: the Tampa Bay Times/tbt and WMNF 88.5 Community Radio.
Ciao, Tom Keating
