Ybor Chamber Member Spotlight
As you are probably aware, the Ybor City Chamber produces several events throughout the year, six to be exact. And all of these events require signage. We love working with our members to provide the products and services needed for our events, and we are very fortunate to have several sign companies as members. One of those members is SBC Signworks, Inc. Ybor native Benny Gomez has 30 years experience in the sign business. Located in Ybor City, SBC Signworks specializes in exterior and interior signs, as well as digital, magnetic, vehicle wraps and banners.
You can check out some of their recent Ybor City signage at the new James Joyce Irish Pub location on 8th Avenue, Carne Chop House, Bad Monkey and the HART Streetcar.
A true story - eleven days before the RNC, the Chamber decided it would be a good idea to replace our signage in the Chamber's Centro Ybor Parking Garage window. We had four beautiful panels celebrating Ybor City, but they had faded badly after several years of direct sunlight. So, with 11 days to D-Day, I called Benny and asked if he could print me new copies on a material that would not fade quite so quickly and install them, all before the 27th. No problem, he says and with six days to spare, we had our new window display. Stop by and check out our classy 16th Street window next time you are in Ybor.
It is great to have such good business partners.

President's Message
Hola Ybor!
The Latin social season is here, which means only one thing, time to dust off those tuxedos and pull out your most glamorous evening gowns, because the 47th Annual Ybor City Gala is right around the corner - September 15th to be exact!
In 1954, my grandmother, Adela Gonzmart was seeking ways for the Ybor Chamber to grow stronger & be better established, and so the Ybor City Gala was born to mark the beginning of the Latin Social Season. For many years, I probably had no idea what this gala-thing really was or who it benefited, I just knew it was an evening where both my parents & grandparents would get dressed in their most elegant attire and go to the Columbia for an evening of dinner and dancing. I believe my first Gala was the inaugural year of the Adela & Cesar Gonzmart award... I was only fourteen years old! After that, I was allowed to attend Gala every so often, more times than not, as my grandmother's "date." It was always such a privilege to attend Gala, and still today, I look at it as a privilege.
I hope you all take advantage of this "privilege" that we so often take for granted, and come join me at this year's Gala. We will be "Honoring the Past and Embracing the Future." We will also be celebrating the 19th Annual Adela and Cesar Gonzmart Award honoring the much deserving Eugene C. Iavarone family, owners of Carmine's Restaurant. For as long as I can remember, the Iavarone family has been a staple in our community, always with Ybor's best interest in mind. Without individuals and families such as them, Ybor would not be as we know it today... and without future individuals and families like them, the Ybor that we have come to know and love, will not be here tomorrow. Because of that, the contributions the Iavarone family has made over the years to Ybor City should not go unrecognized.
With all that being said, Gala has always meant something special to me, probably for the many reasons I named above, but whatever it is, I am looking forward to it this year and hope to see you all there. Until next time...
Viva Ybor!
