In Your Words

"Words cannot express how happy we were to be able to get such a fantastic team to handle our mom's case. We had such a wonderful time with our mom. The team made her comfortable until her last breath. She died peacefully at home surrounded by family. Special thanks to Diana who started it all; to Kristine for doing the initial set-up; and to Oma who was a fantastic case nurse who made us forget at times that our mom was really sick – she made my mom comfortable and made us laugh when it was needed and treated our mom with such care. I'd also like to thank Kim who was there for support if we needed it, and finally George, who was with us until our mom took her last breath. He helped us make her comfortable and die peacefully.
Mahalo nui loa to Hospice Hawaii and your fantastic staff."
– Bernie Wegher
(Daughter of the late Roselle Taum)

"Leave-Taking"
Chaplain's Corner

And so the time has come to say good-bye as we always secretly knew it would. Change, or "impermanence" Buddha taught, is the essence of living in a physical world, be it the seasons of each year, the ocean's great tidal movements, and growth and change in all life. Change is the one constant. Click here to read more…

"The Best Gift"
Doctors' Rx

My birthday was Aug. 3. Nowadays, I don't like to be reminded when it's my birthday. When I was a child, I was proud to be another year older: it meant I was smarter and stronger. When you reach ninety, it's an accomplishment, and it's really an accomplishment when you reach one hundred. But when you're in-between like me, it just means you're another year older.
