Hudson location hires
program coordinator
New Program Coordinator Margaret Christensen comes to ProAct's Life Opportunities program from the Hudson, Wis. School District, but her first experiences with people with disabilities were much earlier, working summers with people with disabilities while she was in high school.

"Ever since then, I've been enjoying the field very much and it's where I love to be," she said.

Regular, meaningful outings and work are a priority at the Hudson program.  "The staff, of course, is amazing," said Christensen.

The new leader earned a master's degree in special education and is a 20-year resident of Hudson.

"It's really using fine motor skills," said human service technician Mike Johnson, who supervises production.  He creates "jigs" so people with most any disability are able to participate in product assembly.

"There's something compelling about it- they want to stick to it," he said.  Rather than running with a set sequence of beads to assemble, individuals craft their own designs with good results, he explained.
