155 Bayfield Chamber members acknowledge
accomplishments and celebrate "Good Neighbors"

At the Bayfield Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Bureau's annual meeting held November 13th, members learned that 2013 has continued a strong history of financial stability for the Chamber with a membership of over four hundred businesses and organizations. While additional marketing efforts allowed for promoting the Bayfield area to a broader targeted market, one of the Chamber's most significant decisions was to partner with the City of Bayfield in expanding and enhancing the downtown area this year. In this regard, the Chamber funded additional decorative light poles for Rittenhouse Avenue between Broad and 4th Street, and 1st Street between Rittenhouse and Washington Avenue.

Bayfield Chamber Annual MeetingNot only did the Chamber commit to subsidizing improvements and expansion to the downtown area, its community outreach efforts were substantial. Highlights included: award of scholarships to two Bayfield graduating seniors; donations to the Bayfield Food Pantry, Brownstone Trail, Summer Mostly Thursday Concerts, Bayfield fireworks fund, and the Bayfield Maritime Museum; hosting an appreciation lunch for Bayfield School District staff, coordinating a spring litter pick-up, purchasing and watering flower baskets, plus a variety of donations to community activities.

Good Neighbor Award recipient Chris GmeinderThe evening also included the presentation of several awards. The tenth annual Bayfield "Good Neighbor Award" recipients were: Chris Gmeinder, owner of Boreal Shores and Turnquist Suite for his contribution to the beautification of Bayfield; the Bayfield Civic League in recognition of their one hundred years of service to the community of Bayfield including Memorial Park gazebo renovations; and John and Sharon Johnson, owners of the Pier Plaza Restaurant and Bay Front Inn for their extensive community involvement and contributions to the well-being of Bayfield.

Bayfield Chamber Volunteer Award recipients Bob Durfy and Cheryl FosdickIn addition, the Chamber recognized four key volunteers including: Cheryl Fosdick and Wes Martins for their outstanding volunteer efforts with major Chamber events; Bob Durfey for his operational support and volunteer work; and John Murphy for his operational support and volunteer work. The summer "Watering Crew," who care for the decorative flower baskets throughout Bayfield in the summer months, were also recognized.

Elected to the Chamber board of directors for the 2013-14 term were four returning board members: Joanne Cirillo, Bayfield Wine and Spirits; Ruth Goetz, Big Top Chautauqua board member; Jared Johnson, Pier Plaza Restaurant/Bay Front Inn; and Dana Noteboom, Lake Effect Builders, LLC.
