Mount Union Stadium 100th Celebration

Mount Union, in conjunction with the Alliance High School, is celebrating the 100th year of the stadium with a rededication and placement of an Ohio Historical Marker on September 27, which is also Family Day on-campusJoin the campus community for a dedication ceremony, $5 cookout prior to the football game, tours of the Dom Capers Press Box plus three bands - John Hampu Band, Jimmy and the Soulblazers and the Ohio Weather Band. At the 61st National Convention in Washington D.C., Mount Union's Epsilon chapter of Phi Kappa Tau was presented with six awards including the Maxwell Trophy, which is awarded to

the most outstanding chapter nationwide. Congratulations!

Actress Carrie Coon '03 stars on the new HBO drama series The Leftovers alongside actors Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman and Liv Tyler just to name a few.

 

Along with her new role on television, Coon is hitting the big screen in the mystery-thriller film Gone Girl, coming to theaters October 3.

 

Coon plays the part of Margo "Go" Dunne, sister to Nick Dunne played by actor Ben Affleck. Click here to view the Gone Girl movie trailer.

Betsy (Kline '91) Zuverwas recognized as the Outstanding Educator during the Bryan City Schools academic awards night. She is an eighth grade language arts teacher. Congratulations, Betsy!

 

Dr. John Saffell, history professor of 34 years and author of Wake the Echos, an Updated History of Mount Union College, passed away at the age of 97. A memorial service will be held in the Myers Sanctuary of Dewald Chapel on Tuesday, July 15 at 10 a.m.

Making More Memories - Forever Mount    

School is out yet there is quite a buzz around campus! Freshmen Preview sessions are well underway with eager students ready to begin their collegiate career, pedestrian walkways are under construction on the east side of campus as College and Miller Avenues have closed, the Performing Arts Center is under roof plus Gallaher Hall, home of physician assistant, nursing and proposed physical therapy programs, is almost complete.

 

The grounds crew has created a spectacular array of flower beds throughout campus - you have never seen so many purple and white flowers! Yes, it's the middle of summer, yet we can't wait for students and YOU to arrive. Are you coming home for Alumni Weekend on October 18?

 

Join us for one, or all, of our Mount Union's Summer of Fun events, including Cedar Point discount tickets, a Progressive Field tour, Cleveland Market District trip and a Family Fun Fest. Shakespeare at the Castle

A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare 

Local actors, Mount Union students and professional actors from Akron, Cleveland and Los Angeles come together to perform Shakespeare's classic comedy of young love and feuding fairies on the grounds of the iconic Glamorgan Castle.  

 

All performances begin at 7 p.m. (Rain location: Carnation City Players - downtown Alliance). Purchase your tickets today!

Take a behind-the-scenes tour of Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Indians, with alum Bob Atkinson '73. Tour admissions is compliments of the Office of Alumni Engagement. Purchase game tickets on-your-own for that evening's game.

 
August 9 

Last call for family fun! Mark your calendar to join us on campus from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. for an end-of-the-summer family get together complete with family friendly games, food, music and more. Bring your bikes and ride around the new pedestrian walkways throughout campus. Always wondered what that tree or plant is? Members of Mount Union's grounds crew will be on-hand for a horticulture tour. Plenty of options for family fun!

 

Pittsburgh Alumni Club Event

Enjoy an afternoon with your family alongside fellow alumni and friends at a Pittsburgh Pirates game! Discounted tickets available - call on your own for tickets. #VOTE4Hank 

The NCAA is holding a contest where fans can vote for their favorite Elite 89 winner from the past year. Mount Union linebacker Hank Spencer (Greencastle, Ind./North Putnam) was the Division III Football winner of the award! The Elite 89 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 89 championships. Baja Team Races to Top at Competition

The University of Mount Union's inaugural Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE) Baja Team placed 29th overall and 14th in maneuverability out of more than 120 registered schools competing in the Baja SAE event held recently in Peoria, Illinois. Read more

   

Engineering Scholarship Established

In honor of retiring Timken President/CEO and former Mount Union Board Member James W. Griffith, The Timken Company Charitable and Education Fund, along with the Timken Foundation, have established a scholarship for one engineering student at the University of Mount Union each year. Read more.

Mount Union held annual Summer Science Camp 

Mount Union held its eighth annual Summer Science Camp for area fourth, fifth and sixth grade students recently. This camp was initiated by Dr. Scott Mason and Dr. Sheryl Mason in June 2007 and has since increased in popularity. The week-long camp featured an array of experiments and educational activities.
