How I love my job working with dear families who have loved ones with Down syndrome. But there is one aspect of my job that is so very difficult, and that is when we lose one of our precious ones.

My heart is broken for Jessica and Phillip Jones whose angel baby Morgan Samantha passed away on February 22nd. She was only 3 years old. Her parents asked me to tell you how thankful they are for all of you who came to her funeral and/or sent encouraging notes of love.

I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to three people who made this family's whole experience so much easier.  I would like to tell Ethan Larsen (Kamber's Kaskets)  thank you from the bottom of my heart for making the beautiful casket for her. I am thankful to Roy Crandall who did the beautiful upholstery in the casket and thank you to Christian Timothy, owner of Falconer Funeral Home who provided all the services they needed.

I also wish to tell all the staff at Phoenix Children's Hospital and all those who work at Ryan House thank you for truly being angels among us. This journey has been so very difficult, but the help of wonderful people like these has helped us get through this very sad time.

If I had to say my feelings for this sweet angel baby it would be simply,

Morgan

"So little. So loved."

With all my love,

Gina Johnson (aka David's Mom)

Rebeca Lopez
Volunteer Spotlight

My name is Rebeca Lopez and I am the owner of Milestone Pediatrics where we provide pediatric habilitation and respite services for families who have children with special needs.  I am also the Spanish Chapter leader for Sharing Down Syndrome Arizona. I was working as a Developmental Specialist (DSI) for DDD when I was introduced to the parent support groups. I immediately fell in love with the babies, as well as the great services that Sharing Down Syndrome provides!

Last Summer, I was asked by Gina Johnson and Jennifer O'Connell to be a part of their great team, as the Spanish Chapter Leader for the Latino Community. I couldn't say no! Being a part of the Latino Community as a DSI, made me aware of the increasing need for these services. I continue to serve the Hispanic Community through Milestone Pediatrics and Sharing Down Syndrome Arizona. I feel very proud and honored to be a part of the Sharing Down Syndrome Family!

Please join us at our next meeting on Wednesday, March 13th, 2013 with special guest speaker Immigration Lawyer Jose Bracamonte!

Mr. Bracamonte will answer questions like:

  • How I can become a citizen if my child has a special needs?
  • Can I get help?
  • Questions about citizenship

(Each case is different so please bring general questions.)
