Nothing ruins a perfectly serene morning quite like an encounter with a porcupine. This was our experience last fall as Tucker and I made our usual pre-dawn trek down our country road; two solitary figures savouring the last remaining twinkling stars. Well - three if you count the porcupine.

As an animal lover and pet first-aid instructor, I see beyond this text-book definition - it makes me think of Mahatma Gandhi's famous quote: "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
