NYNY Spotlight
Michael is a 2012 Fellow currently attending John Jay College and pursuing a degree in International Criminal Justice. He is interested in doing counterterrorism work with either the FBI or Homeland Security, and he is interested in attending law school. At John Jay, he participates in the John Jay Debate Society. Last semester, Michael won the Upper Division Scholarship, and was awarded $2,000. This summer, he will intern with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. He was also recently accepted as a Vera Fellow. As a part of his fellowship, Michael will intern next year with the Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO), a not for profit that works with formerly incarcerated individuals and helps them find long-term work, in order to decrease recidivism.
Mentor Coach Spotlight
Elliot, Jason and Vincent
This month, we are happy to recognize 2011 Mentor Coaches and Mentor Leadership Council (MLC) Co-Chairs Elliot Feldman, Jason Price, and Vincent Barr. We are grateful for their leadership over the past year and want to recognize the integral role they have played in the MLC's success. From planning the post-workshop happy hours, MLC holiday party, and MBA panel to brainstorming ideas for Field Day, NYNY sports teams, and overnight trips, they've worked tirelessly to create a more rewarding Mentor Coach experience and stronger NYNY network to support our Fellows. With their involvement and feedback on recruitment, selection, and engagement, NYNY is confident of the immense impact our Mentor Coaches will have on our Fellows' success. Thank you, Elliot, Jason, and Vincent, for your tremendous commitment and leadership! We are excited to keep you involved as Alumni!

Dear friends of NYNY,
As we await the summer, we are happy to share some exciting updates. This month, we selected our 2013 class of Fellows and Mentor Coaches, and look forward to seeing them come together for the first time on June 29th. Thank you again to all who helped us recruit, recommend and interview the great candidates. Our Career Development Program's pilot offering, Industry Insiders, which launched in October 2012, concluded this month at LaGuardia Community College with a panel on entrepreneurship. We are excited that we have been able to share career development resources with hundreds of community college students, and expose them to professionals and occupations in their chosen industries.
I'm happy to announce our second BBQ & You fundraiser, hosted by 'wichcraft on June 18th, at the Southwest Porch at Bryant Park. The evening will feature unlimited BBQ, Apothic wine, Peak Organic Brewing Company beer, and live jazz/flamenco music from Talisman. Early bird tickets are available until June 3rd, and can be purchased here.
Finally, I'd like to recognize Ashley Prince, Technology and Career Development Programs Coordinator, for all that she has been able to accomplish in her time with New York Needs You. We appreciate the work she has done in helping to build the Technology Initiative and the Career Development Program. Ashley will leave us at the end of the month to prepare to go to Stanford Graduate School of Business in the fall. We wish her the best of luck!
Sincerely,
PJ Kim
