Oi Yee 
Oi Yee

Oi Yee is a 2011 Fellow currently attending Barnard College, where she studies Applied Mathematics. She immigrated to the United States from China, and has found her passion in mathematics. This summer, Oi Yee will participate in the UCLA Research in Industrial Projects Program in Hong Kong. She was selected as one of eight U.S. students to attend the prestigious program. Oi Yee will work with other students on a mathematically based real world research project. The sponsors of various research projects come from a variety of industries and different areas of the public sector.

NYNY is excited to recognize 2012 Mentor Coach Christina Puglisi for the tremendous support she gives to her Fellow, Chinwe, as well as to the NYNY network. Christina recently helped Chinwe secure a spot at a prestigious summer program at Duke University. As a Budget Analyst for Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center's Office of Clinical Research, she has also been an active role model and resource for other Fellows interested in finance and healthcare. We have selected Christina to be one of our Industry Ambassadors for our 2013 Mentor Coach recruitment efforts, and she has introduced many fantastic candidates to us for the next class. Thank you, Christina!

Dear friends of NYNY,

  

Spring is a busy and exciting season for us as we look to form our next class and celebrate our success with supporters new and old. Our Fellows Program application has closed, and we have selected 200 students to attend our Interview Day on April 6th. Our Mentor Coach application is open until April 7th, so there is still time to apply! Please spread the word to your networks and direct them to apply here.

 

Our Young Leadership Board (YLB) will host their Annual Spring Fundraiser on April 11th at the Bowery Hotel. Buy your tickets here!

 

I'd like to welcome recent additions to the NYNY staff:

 

Jaimie Krause - Jaimie joins NYNY as Fellows Program Training Manager. In her role, Jaimie works with the Programs team to create and deliver career development curriculum to Fellows. In addition to her work with NYNY, Jaimie concurrently teaches Program Evaluation and advises Mental Health Counseling Master's students in the Graduate Psychology program at City College. She recently moved to New York from Austin, TX and taught courses in Educational Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin, where she also earned a Ph.D.

 

Jack Corcoran - Jack joins NYNY as Internship Coordinator. Jack has worked in a variety of youth development organizations, including AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps, Mile High Youth Corps, and most recently Urban Alliance, a nonprofit organization focused on professional development of high school seniors. In his role as Internship Coordinator, Jack works directly with Fellows to help them research, apply, and obtain meaningful internship opportunities in their fields of interest. He earned his BA at Towson University and is pursuing his MPA at Troy University.

 

I'm also happy to announce more staffing updates! Sheila Ramachandra, formerly Strategic Partnerships Manager, has been promoted to Associate Director of Strategic Partnerships. Chika Anoliefo, formerly Operations Coordinator, has been promoted to Business Manager.

 

We are happy to have continued growth and hope you will continue to support our work!

2013 Mentor Coach Recruitment Launches at Paul, Weiss!
Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP hosted our first event to kick off the recruitment season for our 2013 Mentor Coach class. Over 60 prospective Mentor Coaches heard about the NYNY experience from current Fellows and Mentor Coaches and enjoyed delicious refreshments while networking. Thank you Paul, Weiss for being a gracious host and a fantastic NYNY partner!
