Mentor Spotlight
Jason

We are happy to start off the year recognizing Jason Price, 2011 Mentor Coach and Mentor Leadership Council (MLC) Co-Chair. Jason is a tremendous supporter and advocate of NYNY and recently led the planning and execution of the MLC's annual MBA Panel & Business School Summit. With Jason's leadership, NYNY secured space at JP Morgan to host the event, which included panels of admissions officers and alumni as well as a MBA fair. Jason's MLC colleagues worked alongside him to ensure the event was a success from start to finish. We are grateful for Jason's leadership and support and would like to thank him for all that he does for NYNY. Thank you!

Dear friends of NYNY,

Happy New Year! Thank you all for your generous support in 2012. I look forward to continuing our work together in 2013! We're already off to a fast start:

  • Our Fellows Program application will close on February 15. If you know any students who you feel would be good candidates for our program, please encourage them to apply! The application can be found here. Also, please be on the lookout for our Mentor Coach application which will open in early March.
  • Our Technology and Career Development Program (CDP) team of Marianna Tu and Ashley Prince recently launched a pilot version of our technology initiative, which matches 25 students with professional volunteers and provides each pair with a virtual Roadmap to guide them through the process of finding an internship. We are very excited because of this project's potential to serve a very large audience.
  • January is National Mentoring Month, and NYNY will send Venessa Mendenhall and Anita Fee Willis to Washington D.C. for the National Mentoring Summit. This will be our second year presenting at the Summit and we are excited to have them there as representatives of NYNY to share our best practices with leaders in the field!
  • We are beginning the process of transitioning to "America Needs You" as the organization that will oversee our work in New York, New Jersey, and subsequent replications across the US. More to come, stay tuned!
I also want to express my personal thanks and appreciation to our VP of Growth Strategy, Mason Beard, and our Internship and Volunteer Coordinator, Bryan Reid. Both will be moving on from NYNY at the end of this month; we will recognize them at the 2011 Fellows Workshop on January 26 at John Jay College. Mason and Bryan have served critical roles in NYNY's journey. They will be missed. Many of our current staff are former Mentor Coaches and volunteers or referrals from our network.  Please contact us if you have any suggestions for candidates to join the NYNY team to fill these open roles.

Sincerely,

PJ Kim

Congratulations to Barclays for receiving NYNY's quarterly Game Changer Award for being a wonderful partner! Barclays will also host both NYNY and NJNY Fellows for a site visit on Feb 22 as part of our Career Days series. In addition to hosting a visit to their corporate office, Barclays recently sponsored 102 Fellows, staff, and volunteers to visit the Barclays Center to watch the Brooklyn Nets play at home. Finally, Barclays is currently reviewing more than a dozen internship applications from NYNY Fellows. Thank you to Barclays for all of your support!

NYNY's Mentor Leadership Council Hosts Successful MBA Summit!

The Mentor Leadership Council (MLC) hosted a fantastic MBA Panel & Business School Summit on Wednesday, January 16. The event also included an MBA fair of test prep and tutoring companies, including NYNY partners Bell Curves and The Princeton Review.
