Mentor Spotlight
Young-Jee

This month, we are delighted to recognize 2012 Mentor Coach Young-Jee (YJ) Won.  YJ joined our program in June and has been working closely with her Fellow Doris.  YJ brings years of experience in financial services and consulting to the NYNY class and we were thrilled when she offered to host a case study interview seminar for our Fellows.  YJ took the lead on creating the content for an informative and engaging case study interview and presented it at the November 17th workshop.  We are so appreciative of YJ and all of our volunteers who leverage their professional expertise to create innovative learning experiences for our Fellows.  Thank you, YJ!

Dear friends of NYNY,

I want to thank all of you as we enter the holiday season. With your help this year, we expanded the size of our Fellows Program, piloted the Career Development Program at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, Baruch College and The New Community College with encouraging results, and launched New Jersey Needs You. We are greatly honored by your support throughout 2012, and hope that you consider including NYNY in your end of year giving so that we can continue to expand our impact.

As you know, the New York City ING Marathon was canceled in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. We would like to thank all of you who supported Robert Reffkin and Team NYNY: Nasir, Keith, Melissa, Josh, Will, Gabby and me. Based on current information, all runners who were supposed to run will be eligible for next year's race so we will continue the campaign to Robert's 50th marathon until then.

We are also in the midst of our "Career Days" for our Fellows. They will be visiting businesses and organizations throughout New York City, getting the chance to speak to employers and learn about internship and job opportunities. Thank you to our Mentor Coaches and volunteers who have been instrumental in connecting us to these organizations. And thank you to our corporate and nonprofit partners who are graciously hosting our Fellows!

Finally, I'd like to welcome our newest intern Nushrat Amin, who joins our Fellows Program team!

Sincerely,

PJ Kim

H.E.A.L.T.H for Youths Partners with NYNY!

H.E.A.L.T.H for Youths has been a wonderful NYNY partner for the past year. H.E.A.L.T.H for Youths offers young adults various programs and workshops in the areas of physical health, mental health, social/cultural education and life skills. A number of NYNY Fellows have attended H.E.A.L.T.H for Youths events, where they learned about healthcare careers. H.E.A.L.T.H for Youths' co-founder Heather Butts has been an NYNY volunteer and helped with recruiting for the Fellows Program. Here is what one Fellow said after attending a H.E.A.L.T.H for Youths panel: "The event today was indeed great! It was very informative and Heather is truly an inspiration...the panelists were all amazing and had so much to share. Now I have a much better understanding of what public health and healthcare administration entails."  We are so grateful for our partnership with H.E.A.L.T.H for Youths, and we look forward to working together more in the future!
