Mentor Spotlight
Gilbertson

NYNY is happy to recognize Gilbertson (Gil) Cuffy, 2012 Mentor Coach and Young Leadership Board (YLB) member.  Gil became involved with NYNY as a Career Coach in the summer of 2011.  After months of working with many different Fellows, we were thrilled when Gil became a Mentor Coach to his Fellow Joshua as part of our 2012 class and was selected to join the YLB.  In addition to these two roles, Gil has also been working tirelessly to connect NYNY to new partners.  He has facilitated introductions and meetings for NYNY with companies in the entertainment and fashion space and continues to help us grow our representation in a diversity of industries.  We'd like to thank Gil for his unwavering commitment to our program and for ensuring that we continue to grow stronger.  Thank you, Gil!

Dear friends of NYNY,

The ING New York City Marathon is only 9 days away, and we need your support for Team NYNY! The ING New York City Marathon is Robert Reffkin's (NYNY Founder and Board Chair) 50th and final marathon in his mission to run one in each state, with the goal of raising $1 million for NYNY and the other nonprofits that helped him achieve success. Running with Robert are NYNY volunteers Keith Putnam-Delaney, Will Yu, Nasir Qadree, Josh Weissenstein, Melissa Kinckle and me. I predict that I will finish last among this speedy group! Please visit http://www.newyorkneedsyou.org/help/2012-nyc-marathon to learn more about how you can contribute to our efforts.

Congratulations to the staff, Board, Fellows and Mentor Coaches of New Jersey Needs You for their inspiring first workshop and launch on October 20! The workshop was attended by Newark Mayor Cory Booker and Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy, and was held at Goldman Sachs in Jersey City. The first class of NJNY consists of 25 Fellows and 27 Mentor Coaches. You can read more coverage of the first workshop here. We look forward to seeing the ongoing growth and success of New Jersey Needs You in the coming months!

A warm welcome to the newest members of the NYNY staff:

Bryan Garcia - Bryan joins NYNY as Fellow Support Coordinator. Bryan most recently worked for Community Mediation Services and Family and Children's Association, providing case management and therapy services to at-risk youth in New York City and Long Island. In his role as a Fellow Support Coordinator, Bryan works with the Programs team to provide case management services and holistic assistance to Fellows throughout their program participation.

Simran Sawhney - Simran joins NYNY as Development Coordinator. Simran is currently obtaining her Master of Science in Fundraising Management at Columbia University. Previously, she worked in the fashion industry, including positions at Burberrys Ltd and Nine West Group. As Development Coordinator, Simran will support Mason Beard, Vice President of Growth Strategy, with fundraising plans, maintaining and researching key donors and prospects, as well as assisting with special fundraising events.

Thanks to 2011 Mentor Coach Matthew Schwieger, who served as NYNY's Development Manager for the past year. Matthew has moved on to an exciting and timely opportunity in national politics. We wish him the best!

And finally, we are lucky to have Dylan Teggart and Michael Diaz join us as interns on our Operations and Growth Strategy teams, respectively.

Thank you all for your continuing support!
