PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Parents and Students,

This is such a fun time of year, as we have so many extracurricular activities going on at Coleman. Hopefully, you didn't miss our Coleman Block Party held on Thursday, November 12th.  Food trucks were on site, offering a variety of tasty foods that everyone enjoyed. Our Band and Orchestra provided musical entertainment throughout the evening. Face Painting was provided by Mrs. Sonenberg, our Art Teacher.  The staff challenged the 8th grade Boys and Girls Basketball teams for annual bragging rights.

Report cards are being sent home with students today, November 13th. Over 30% of our students earned a spot on the Principal's Honor Roll. It is wonderful that our students take their studies so seriously.  I look forward to celebrating with them in early December at the Principal's Honor Roll Ice Cream Party. It's my way of thanking the students for their hard work.

Our "Can the Principals" drive to collect food for Metropolitan Ministries is in full swing. Homerooms compete to see which class will bring in the most cans and other non-perishable food items. The donations are stockpiled in the offices of the assistant principals and myself. It is fun for our students and it connects them with a great cause. So help your child "Can the Principal" by making a donation before Wednesday, November 18th.

As always, if you have any concerns please feel free to contact the school at 872-5335. Our goal is the success and safety of every child. We always encourage parental involvement.

Yours in Education,

Mike Hoskinson
PTSA PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Hello!

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate our Cobra Community at the Block Party last night!  Carol Eisman and her team deserve great credit for putting on a fabulous event. Special thanks to the students in Ms. Pfister's orchestra and Mr. Johnson's band classes for providing the entertainment and Mrs. Sonenberg for the face painting (a new addition!).  It was a great night!

If you did not get a chance to purchase some PDQ gift cards, we will have more opportunities in the near future.  Remember they are each worth $10.00 but only cost you $6.00!  That's a great deal!

This Tuesday, November 17th, at noon, we will be hosting a (bring your own) Lunch and Learn with Mr. Hoover, the Assistant Principal over IB studies at Robinson High School. The meeting will be in the Media Center.  This will be the perfect opportunity to have all of your questions answered and to learn more about the program.  All parents are welcome including from other schools.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  We will also be hosting Mr. Nelson the Plant Principal at our PTSA meeting on December 1st at 6:30pm.

Have a great weekend!

Best,
Jen Carlstedt
PTSA President

NAVIGATING THE NET
It seems like everyday a new App is being introduced.  It presents a huge challenge for parents.  Especially when the names or icons don't accurately describe what they are.  Here is a tip.  If you see a new app on your child's device, go to the Apple or Android store and read the description.  It will tell you everything you want to know about the app including the rating, if it allows for secret communications, or a portal to different apps, etc.  Apple and Android are required to provide this information so use it to your advantage!

If you have any suggestions for upcoming articles, please contact Jen Carlstedt.

PTSA MINI-GRANTS

We have 2 new mini-grants that were given out this month by our PTSA Board!

*   75 books for our 7th grade Language Arts Classes -       they will be reading "The Outsiders" this year.
*   Scholastic Scope Language Arts Magazine Subscriptions for our 6th grade Reading Class.

Mini-Grants are requests written by our Coleman Teachers/Staff on specific things that they feel they need in order to enhance either themselves or our kids educational experiences while at Coleman.  These are all PTSA funded through donations from both our Business and Family Sponsors.  So thank you to those that make these Mini-Grants possible!
Stayed tuned for more Mini-Grant recipients in your upcoming Coleman Chronicles!

STUDENT GOVERNMENT

Canned Food DriveThis year we have a mission to
"Can the Principal"

The Student Government Association (SGA) will be collecting non-perishables for Metropolitan Ministries during the months of November to December through their homerooms.  Metropolitan Ministries is an organization in downtown Tampa whose primary goal is to help people in need.  It is an honor for the SGA to continue this tradition.

Our goal is to fill the Administrators' offices with needed supplies, and fill it we will!

 We are collecting:

1.  Any canned or jarred foods and cereals.

2. Toiletry items, to include, but not limited to, shaving cream, body soap, q-tips, etc.

3. Any baby supplies or toddler supplies to include diapers, baby power, etc.

***Please make sure you check ALL expiration dates on these items PRIOR to sending them in.

To make "Can the Principal" more interesting, the SGA with the support of Mr Hoskinson, have decided to make it into a competition.  The leading homeroom will get to have a pizza party during lunch with Mr. Hoskinson on Wednesday December 16.  The Second and Third place homerooms will get to have a breakfast party hosted by Mr. Pechacek and the SGA Leadership.

What do you have to do to win???  Points will be awarded according to the following donation criteria:

*  1 point for each individual item; canned food, shaving cream, baby powder

*  2 points for each box of cereal

*  3 points for each box or bulk item; diapers, body soap, toothbrushes, etc.

Once again, thank you for your participation and assistance with the SGA!! If you have any questions, please email me.

Sincerely,
Mr. Pechacek
