Parents and Students,
Cooler air finally signals the arrival of fall and the approaching holiday season. I always find this time of year to be very exciting at school. We are beginning our annual "Can the Principals" drive to collect food for Metropolitan Ministries to distribute for Thanksgiving. Homerooms compete to see which class will bring in the most cans and other non-perishable food items. The donations are stockpiled in the offices of the assistant principals and myself. It is fun for our students and it connects them with a great cause. See the article below for more information.
I want to personally thank our PTSA and my staff for supporting the upcoming festive Halloween Parade/Party for our ESE students and Best Buddies on October 30th. I look forward to the smiles and excitement on their faces as they have a Spooktacular time. Thanks for making Coleman such a fantastic school, for all of our students.
We have doubled our Twitter followers since the last year. Please remember to follow us on Twitter @HCPSColemanMS to receive important notices in the event of an emergency as well as updates on school events
Over 900 parents have already registered for Edsby. Edsby is the district's online grade program and is being utilized by all 200+ schools to keep parents apprised of their student's academic progress.
In an effort to our community informed, we are required each year to notify our parent base of teachers who are teaching out of field, Please review the article below in this week's Chronicle for more information.
Yours in Education,
Mike Hoskinson

Bake Sale is a sweet way to support the Coleman Band! The Coleman Band Boosters are holding a Bake Sale during the Cobra Block Party on November 12 to raise funds for our students' music program. After you've enjoyed a great food truck dinner, stop by our table, located outside the Coleman Cafeteria for dessert!
Donations of individually-wrapped, ready-for-sale baked goods are requested of band parents. Please drop off your items any time during the day of the event in the Band Room or bring to Bake Sale table that evening.
We look forward to seeing you at the Cobra Block Party!

The Faculty Honor Roll is a program at Coleman that allows families to recognize dedicated teachers, administrators, staff members, coaches and counselors who work with our students each and every day. If your family has made a donation this year to the Coleman Family and/or Coleman Business Sponsorship Campaign in any amount, you can designate the faculty members you would like to honor with this award. They will receive a handwritten note from the committee with your personal message; delivered with a special treat. Further communications will be going out soon to those who are eligible to participate in this special benefit.
What a great way to let faculty know they have made a difference in your child's success at Coleman!

IT'S TIME FOR OUR ANNUAL GERM OUT |
Cold and flu season is in full bloom and we are gearing up to shut it down! It is once again time for the GERM OUT, and we could use some help with volunteers and/or supplies such as Sanitizing wipes, Kleenex, Wet Ones and cans of Lysol.
We will be meeting before and after school next week at 8:00 a.m till 8:30 and 4:15 p.m. until 4:45 p.m; so if you have a few minutes to spare, please give a quick e-mail shout out to Joanne by October 19 so we can assign rooms to volunteers. Thank you in advance for helping us to give our kids a clean and healthy environment in which to learn!

New CAR MAGNETS are in!
If you purchased a car magnet in the past that has faded, please bring it into the office and you can exchange for a new one. They are the same design but from a new company and will hopefully hold their color a little longer.

"Coleman's Rack Pack."
As a school, we will be walking on Saturday, October 24th in the local Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Event.
Almost everyone has been touched by breast cancer in some way, so we have decided with your help and the support of the Coleman SGA and Staff to participate in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
Saving lives from breast cancer starts with one team, one walker, and one dollar at a time. We know that by supporting the American Cancer Society we will be ensuring that if you need someone to talk to anytime of the day or night they will be there; if your friend is losing her hair from chemo, your mother needs a ride to treatment, or a loved one needs a place to stay when treatment is far from home, they all be there to help. Join us and together we will walk for a world without breast cancer!
You can click the following link Making Strides Sign Up to sign up. Our goal, with your help, will be to make a team of 100 people to walk with Coleman. Together we will make this goal happen!
Thank you for your support.

2015-2016 Out of Field Notification |
Coleman Middle School 2015 - 2016 Out-Of-Field Notification
October 5, 2015
Dear Parents/Guardians:
All educators in Florida are monitored to ensure they meet certification and training requirements as mandated by law. Per Florida Statute 1012.42, when a teacher is assigned teaching duties out of the field in which the teacher is certified, the parents of all students in the class shall be notified in writing. Per the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), we are also required to notify parents when their child has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher not highly qualified for that class.
Hillsborough County Public Schools is committed to providing quality instruction for all students and does so by employing the most qualified individuals to teach and support each student in the classroom. The district is assisting our teachers by developing anIndividual Professional Development Plan to complete the requirements needed to become in-field and/or highly qualified.
All of our teachers are certified to teach, although some of them are currently out-of-field and/or not highly qualified (HQ) and are working on additional areas of certification. You have the right to know the professional qualifications of the teachers or paraprofessionals who instruct your child. Federal law allows you to ask for certain information about your child's teachers and requires us to give you this information in a timely manner if you ask for it. If you would like more information, please contact the school at 813 872-5335.
The table below lists teachers who are currently out-of-field and/or not highly qualified (HQ).

Student Government Part 2 |
This year we have a mission; to "Can the Principal". The Student Government Association, SGA, will be collecting non-perishables for Metropolitan Ministries during the months of November to December through their homerooms. The Metropolitan Ministries is an organization situated in downtown Tampa whose primary goal is to help people in need. It is an honor for the SGA to continue this tradition. Our Primary goal is to fill the Administrators' offices with needed supplies, and fill it we will. We are collecting:
1. Any canned or jarred foods and cereals. 2. Toiletry items, to include, but not limited to, shaving cream, body soap, q-tips, etc. 3. Any baby supplies or toddler supplies to include diapers, baby power, etc. Please make sure we check ALL expiration dates on these items prior to sending them with your SGA or homeroom students. To make "Can the Principal" more interesting, the SGA has decided to make it into a competition. The leading homeroom will get to have pizza party during lunch with Mr. Hoskinson on Wednesday December 16. 2nd and 3rd place will get to have a breakfast party hosted by Mr. Pechacek and the SGA Leadership.
Points are to be awarded accordingly:
1. 1 point for each per individual items; canned food, shaving cream, baby powder 2. 2 points for each box of cereal. 3. 3 points for each box or bulk items; diapers, body soap, toothbrushes, etc. Once again, thank you for your participation and assistance with the SGA!! If you have any questions, please email me. Sincerely, Mr. Pechacek Sponsor SGA

Greetings Cobra Families! It is hard to believe the first quarter is almost over. We want to remind you all that the school counselors are here to provide academic, career, personal and social support for your children. All of our student's viewed the Bully movie on Thursday, October 8th and we will continue to provide awareness and prevention programs to support our students. Below are two upcoming awareness days that we will be participating in to show that we are caring Cobras.
In support of Unity Day-Together Against Bullying, on Wednesday, October 21st, we are asking all students, teachers and staff to wear orange. This is a nationwide event and we would love to see 100% participation. The homeroom in each grade level with the highest number of students wearing orange will receive a donut party.
November 19th is National Children's Grief Awareness Day! We will be wearing blue on this day in support of this cause. Lifepath Hospice is sponsoring a community wide event on this day from 6-8pm, location too be determined. This information will be shared once we receive the location. Hospice offers many grief programs for children. Please feel free to contact your child's counselor for more information.
Ms. Wicker and Mrs. Morter |
The Great American Teach In will take place on Thursday, November 19, 2015. Please contact your child's teacher about presenting. If you are planning on presenting, please contact the teacher early, because our times fill quickly. For any further information, please contact Karen Wilkins at Karen.wilkins@sdhc.k12.fl.us.
If you are planning on volunteering this year, please complete a SERVE FORM as soon as possible.
