Parents and Students,
Parental involvement is one of the keys to middle school success. You and your student can connect with Coleman by attending one of our upcoming events. Dads are invited to Dine and Dash with their kids on the first Thursday of each month during lunches, 12:00 - 1:30 (Please coordinate with your child's lunch time).
Coleman's Band will participate in Middle School Band Night at Plant High School's football game on Friday, October 23rd. Girls and Boys Basketball continue to dominate the competition and hopefully will make it to the county playoffs coming up October 19th - 21st. Our students are always proud and excited to share their talents and display their skills with the community.
Keeping Coleman families informed is also important to our success. Each year, there are certain pieces of information that I am required to share with parents. Campus reunification sites are noted below. Copies of the School Public Accountability Report and the Asbestos Survey Report are available in the Main Office.
Please remember to follow us on Coleman Twitter to receive important notices in the event of an emergency as well as updates on school events.
Edsby is utilized by all 200+ schools to keep parents apprised of their student's academic progress. If you have not signed up already, please do so ASAP.
In order to keep the campus secure and our students safe, everyone is required to report to the main office to obtain a visitor's pass and to sign the visitor's log.
Photo identification is required. If you are signing out a student during the day, you must have photo identification and be listed on the emergency card before the child is called from class and released to you.
As always, if you have any concerns please feel free to contact the school at 872-5335. Our goal is the success and safety of every child. We always encourage parental involvement.
Yours in Education,
Mike Hoskinson |

Hello!
It is hard to believe that we are half way through the first quarter. I want to thank all of the parents who have become PTSA members, volunteered at various events or donated to our annual campaign. A link to a list of sponsoring families is below our awesome business partners to the right. Without you, none of our PTSA projects would be possible, so thank you for every dollar or hour you give!
I would also like to thank Mr. Hoskinson and his administrative team for their steadfast support and efforts to keep our students healthy, happy and safe. That is no easy feat these days and we are so fortunate to have you all!
Today all of the students celebrated the Hispanic Heritage Festival. Mrs. Estrada and many volunteers organized a great event! Special thanks to Lisa Ferras, from the Mr. Empanada (Corporate-Armenia Store) for donating mini empanadas for the festival! Speaking of restaurants who support our school, Village Inn is sponsoring a Coleman Spirit Day on OCTOBER 6th. ANY time during the day, stop by and mention your support of Coleman and help raise money for our school! More information is below.
Best,
Jen Carlstedt
PTSA President

One suggestion from the last Navigating the Net was to highlight programs or apps used to monitor their children's online activities. Here are three that received high praise from parental and tech groups. However, none of these apps are endorsed by the PTSA or Coleman Middle School. In addition to the programs, all of the websites provide useful tips for parents.
MamaBear provides parents with a powerful all-in-one safety and awareness tool that offers a unique set of social media monitoring features, family mapping, alerts and reputation management tools.
TeenSafe is a monitoring service that allows parents to monitor their child's iPhone or Android smartphone as well as view activity on Instagram, WhatsApp and Kik Messenger.
My Mobile Watchdog This is also an application that you install on a cell phone. On its Web site, It gives you a listing of ALL activity on a given phone.
I hope you find these links hel pful. If you have any suggestions for upcoming articles, please contact Jen Carlstedt.

Dear Parents,
This year will be an exciting year for the Student Government Association 2015-2016. We are going to start this year off Pink. That's right PINK! In celebration, and memory, of those who had breast cancer, Coleman will be changing our colors from Gold and Black to Pink and Black. Each participating teacher will have a newly decorated classroom door for the up-in-coming breast cancer awareness walk. These doors will be decorated in Pink with a picture and a short story of people(s) who have battled breast cancer.
If you, your family, or any person has been impacted by breast cancer, please feel free to send me their name, a short biography, and a photograph of those people(s). We will use this information for our "Turn Coleman Pink".
Finally, Mrs. Harvey will be hosting a team called "Coleman's Rack Pack." As a school, we will be walking on Saturday, October 24th.
You can click the following link Making Strides Sign Up to sign up. Our goal, with the help of you, will be to make a team of 100 people to walk with Coleman. With your help, SGA and the staff at Coleman, we will make this goal happen!
Thank you for your support,
Mr. Pechacek (Mr. P)

Thank you to everyone who has already joined the PTSA this year. It is still not too late to join! Only $6 per member goes a long way to support our school.
Your membership will provide support for various school programs like Student of the Month, Mini-grants that allow our teachers to pick projects they would like to see implemented, and Staff Appreciation. PTSA is member driven. While we rely on volunteers and encourage everyone to get involved, your membership does not obligate you to volunteer your time; it simply says you care about your child's education and that you recognize the impact of a strong PTSA at their school.
Students put the "S" in PTSA! Our first student member incentive day was today, Friday October 2nd - the next incentive day will be Friday, November 6. Your child must be an individual member to receive the treat, so please have your student return the form as soon as possible to enjoy the member benefits!
Membership is only $6 per person. If you have any questions regarding PTSA membership, please contact
