Open House: The Future of the Wadleigh Memorial Library Sunday, November 16 3 - 5 p.m. For the past several years, the Library Board of Trustees & staff have been working diligently to plan for the future of our community's library. We invite Milford residents to attend our second in a series of Open Houses and get a behind the scenes tour of the current building with our Facilities Manager; meet the architect who took a list of needs from the staff, trustees and community focus groups and designed a structure and floor plans within our guidelines; and most importantly, ask whatever questions that may be on your minds about the current building and future of the most heavily used town facility outside of our schools.

Thursday, November 13 10 - 11 a.m.

Our selection this month is The Tender Bar: a Memoir by J. R. Moehringer.
"J.R. Moehringer grew up listening for a voice: It was the sound of his missing father, a disc jockey who disappeared before J.R. spoke his first words. As a boy, J.R. would press his ear to a clock radio, straining to hear in that resonant voice the secrets of masculinity, and the keys to his own identity. J.R.'s mother was his world, his anchor, but he needed something else, something more, something he couldn't name. So he turned to the bar on the corner, a grand old New York saloon that was a sanctuary for all types of men -- cops and poets, actors and lawyers, gamblers and stumblebums." Publisher Description
Copies are available at the Main Desk. Newcomers always welcome.

Tuesday, November 25 7 p.m.

As she works, Claire and Aiden become lovers, but she doesn't tell him about her discovery that the stolen Degas is itself a copy. This knowledge is Claire's lifeline when the finished forgery is discovered, Aiden and then Claire are both arrested, and only she can save them.

Grades 2 & 3 Book Group
Monday, November 3
6 p.m.
Want to have your child meet some interesting characters? They should open a book! Want to have them meet some real-life characters, too? Then join our book club! Book clubs are a great way to communicate with friends and meet new people while exploring and discussing good books. What's more, membership in a book club can help children stay motivated to read if they otherwise have difficulty finding the time to pick up a book. We often play games or make a creative project, and we always enjoy a yummy snack while having a fun time together!
This group is for students in grades 2 and 3 only. Please note that, in order to help me to plan materials and snacks, you will need to register them for each session that they can attend. If s/he cannot attend this month, or at any other time, extra copies of out books can be found in the J Fic section of our library which is located just outside of the Children's Room.

Paws to Read
Saturday, Novmber 8
10:30 - 12 noon
Read to a DOG? Not just any dog....
Certified Therapy Pets are a wonderful way to encourage reluctant readers and children having difficulties with reading to become more confident in their ability to read.
The use of Therapy Pets in hospitals, rehabilitation centers and nursing homes has been shown to decrease anxiety, lower blood pressure and promote relaxation; the same premise applies to children with reading difficulties.
For those children who cannot yet read on their own, parents & caregivers are invited to read with their children. In order to guarantee your spot, you must register for each session.
Registered children should arrive during the advertised time span and will read to the dog of their choice for approximately 15-20 minutes.
Check our online calendar for upcoming dates & times.
