The Acoustic Cafe is a library-sponsored program showcasing regional acoustic musicians. Open to the public, it is held the 3rd Saturday from October thru April in a smoke-free intimate environment.
The Acoustic Cafe is also supported by the Friends of the Library. All proceeds from coffee and refreshment sales benefit the café and the library. |
Discount Movie Tickets

Discounted movie tickets are available at the Library as a Friends of the Library fundraiser. $5.50 per ticket, or 10 for $50.00. These are ordinarily $7.50 per ticket.

The Mystery and Detective Story in American Literature: A Big Read Event
Tuesday, October 27 - 8:30 p.m. Keyes Meeting Room
Denise Askin, Professor of English Emerita at St. Anselm College, will examine the contribution of Edgar Allan Poe to the development of the classic literary genre of the mystery and detective story in American literature. Copies of Murders in the Rue Morgue and other writings of Poe will be available for loan to prepare the background for the discussion. Register now for this free event! |
Cemetery Mapping: A Big Read Event
Wednesday, October 10 7 - 8:30 p.m. Keyes Meeting Room David Palance is an expert in locating and mapping old cemeteries and has located the old County Farm Cemetery in Wilton in 2008. According to a Wilton Heritage Commission report the County Farm housed the poor and indigent, the old and the sick, petty criminals, and the insane from 1867 to 1894.He will talk about his cemetery-mapping techniques and how he finds where the bodies lie. It seems a fitting subject for Poe enthusiasts who acknowledge his preoccupation with death in all his writings. Register now for this free event!

Morning Book Group: A Big Read Event
Thursday, October 11 10 - 11:15 a.m. AV Room
Discussion of some of the works of Edgar Allan Poe with attendees reading their favorite selections. We will concentrate on the book, Entombed by Linda Fairstein, dealing with a crime scene that Poe would have written about. Though set in present times, it concerns something found inside the walls of an old home being demolished.
Copies of the book will be available at the library. Newcomers are welcome. |
Edgar Allen Poe Readers' Theater: A Big Read Event

Eclectic Entertainment will present a free dramatization of some of Poe's works, including The Tell-Tale Heart, The Raven, Annabelle Lee and others. Are you looking for other yarn addicts? Do your Monday nights seem dull? Look no further! Don't have a project in mind? Can't seem to finish that scarf for Grandma? Or are you a complete beginner with an itch to stitch? Bring your project in & be inspired; if you're a beginner, your local craft store can help you select a project & requisite supplies. There will be no formal instruction but 'knitwits' are a helpful bunch and love to indoctrinate the uninitiated into the cult of knitting. Tea, helpful company & oodles of knitting books will be served. |

Socktoberfest!
Thursday, October 11 3 - 4:30 p.m.
 Celebrate October with cute animals made from socks! You can choose either a sock bunny or a socktopus, or make a creature from your own imagination! This is a great way to recycle your socks who have lost their mates. You may bring as many socks as you would like. Knee socks will work best for this craft. All other materials (needles, thread, stuffing, etc) will be provided. This craft will involve hand sewing! This program is for grades 6-12. |

Teen Craft Masquerade Mask-Making

Get ready for the upcoming Masque of the Red Death Teen Halloween Party by making your own mask. You will be able to decorate your mask with feathers, flowers, sequins, or paint. All materials provided. Registration required and limited to 15. Registration will begin Oct. 1. This program is for teens in grades 6-12. |

Celebrate Edgar Allan Poe and the Big Read! Come dressed in your best masquerade costume and have some ghoulish fun. We will play some Poe-themed games, watch the classic "Masque of the Red Death", and of course, eat tons of candy! Be sure to come to the masque-making event on Oct. 23 to complete your costume! Read to a DOG? Not just any dog....
Certified Therapy Pets are a wonderful way to encourage reluctant readers and children having difficulties with reading to become more confident in their ability to read. The use of Therapy Pets in hospitals, rehabilitation centers and nursing homes has been shown to decrease anxiety, lower blood pressure and promote relaxation; the same premise applies to children with reading difficulties.
For those children who cannot yet read on their own, parents & caregivers are invited to read with their children. In order to guarantee your spot, you must register for each session.
Registered children should arrive during the advertised time span and will read to the dog of their choice for approximately 15-20 mins. |
