Showers Pass Supports Local Mountain Biking

NWTA's partners are making a difference. This month, local bike apparel company Showers Pass donated up a one-of-a-kind Veloforma 29er to raise money and awareness for local mountain biking.

Donations and sponsorships (like this raffle) are one of the primary sources that keep NWTA going strong. Not only does your $20 get you entered to win a sweet bike valued at $8,500, but all proceeds go directly to support all of the mountain biking programs, trail care and advocacy that help open more places to ride.

A TREMENDOUS thank you to the staff at Showers Pass for not only donating a gorgeous bike for one lucky soul, but for driving the effort behind running and promoting this raffle.

It's easy to get your ticket now through our website: http://nw-trail.org/BikeRaffle and win your very own Veloforma! Hurry, because the raffle ends at Trailfest on September 21st.

See you at Powell Butte!

Reroute to Protect Fender's Blue Butterfly

From June 2nd thru July 20th, NWTA's Trail Development Partnership equipment was on site at Henry Hagg Lake to help Washington County parks & recreation build a 1/2 mile re-route around the sensitive habitat area where a rare/endangered butterfly species is thriving. The route stays higher up slope and should be navigable during season when the lower trail becomes a swamp. Volunteer equipment operators ran both machines to pioneer brand new trail, creating outsloped tread, and dispersing the duff downslope.  This new route is part of the 14 mile main shared-use trail which circles the lake. There's more than 2,000+ feet of climbing when doing the entire loop!

Next steps for the project include a bridge across drainage (currently dry) and adding trail directional signage to help hikers and mountain bike riders know which way the main loop goes.

"Identifying the need, but not having the equipment or resources to complete it, the local chapter of the NWTA graciously offered to partner with Washington County Parks in this very worthwhile endeavor. Joe Rykowski and his team of volunteer trail professionals completed the realignment within an amazingly short timeframe." -- Todd Winter, Parks Director Washington County Parks
