We Came, We shuttled, We Raised Money for the Trails!

The first Sandy Ridge shuttle fundraiser event which occurred June 1st and 2nd was successfully hosted with the help of NWTA volunteers and generous donations from Timberline and Lumberyard Indoor Bike Park. We raised more than $3,000 (after expenses) to go to new Sandy Ridge Trail Fund.

It was a SUPER day at Sandy Ridge!
100% of proceeds will be used for ongoing maintenance
and improvement of this trail system!  There were more than 150 participants with no line. Half pre-paid for all-day shuttle privileges, and the other half for a single trip  pass.
Hoping to do this again sometime soon!!

Mt St Helens Coldwater Lake Trail Restoration Party and Campout
A 75-person crew completed significant work on the 211 and 230 trails at Coldwater Lake on the north side of Mount St. Helens on June 1st. The effort was led by Friends of Coldwater, Cyclepath, and NWTA, with Growlers Gulch Racing handling logistics.  The group focused on water mitigation and general maintenance issues on the 211 and brushed out several tough miles on the 230. Those two trails, in conjunction with the 230A, form a spectacular 12-mile loop.

The Friends of Coldwater will be at St. Helens on Saturday, June 29th to complete maintenance on the 230A trail on the south side of the lake. The crew will meet at the 230A trailhead, which is about .25 to .5 miles past the entrance to the boat launch, at 8:45 a.m on Saturday, June 29th.

USFS will allow us to camp at the lake both Friday and Saturday nights.  Camping is at a small spot off the access road to the Coldwater lake boat ramp.  NWTA will provide barbecue brats for the entire crew at the end of the work day.

Contact Jim LeMonds at seattle0@hotmail.com or check the
Friends of Coldwater Facebook page if you'd like to be involved.

Summer Kids Camps - Register Now!

Portland Parks & Recreation is again teaming up with NWTA for two Kids Mountain Bike Camps this summer! After last years successful week-long camp, partners have come together to provide both beginner and intermediate camps in July and August. Camps will feature mountain bike skills instruction provided by The Dirt Dojo, environmental education with local experts, and commuter tips and free use of bicycles (for kids without) courtesy of the Bicycle Transportation Alliance.  If your kids are brand new to mountain biking, July's camp will explore the very basics of body positioning and use of equipment, focusing on braking and gearing. The second camp will build on the basics, introducing more advanced cornering techniques, wheel lifts, picking lines and riding obstacles such as rock drops and logovers. Destinations include the Sandy Ridge Trail System, Cascade Locks EasyCLIMB Trail System, Powell Butte and the Ventura Park Pump Track. Camps will also touch on basic bike maintenance, trail ethics, ecology of our parks, and an opportunity to give back to nature through a service project. Helmets can also be provided and are required.

WakeCharter Gets it Done at Riverview

Thanks to a group of hard workers affiliated with WakeCharter the Riverview area is much lighter. 50 bags of garbage, 10 bike frames, and 15 car tires are just some of the items removed from this beautiful area during a recent work party. It's looking good out there!
