Come Out and Vote!
Now that winter has settled in, what better way to shake off the post-holiday daze than with a beer at our January membership meeting? This Tuesday the 29th from 6-8pm at Hopworks, come out to hear the latest NWTA updates and show your support for our volunteers of the year. We'll also be holding elections for our new board of directors. Of our 12 director positions, we will be voting for seven openings. Hear from the candidates themselves and be sure to get your membership status up-to-date so you can make your vote count. You can find out more about all of the candidates on our website at www.nw-trail.org.
See you there!

New Milestone in the Trail Development Partnership Program
Purchase and Delivery of Ditch Witch SK755 with attachments
The Ditch Witch SK755 is the MAIN piece of equipment we targeted for purchase using 2012 RTP grant funding (20% of the required matching was provided by a generous donation from Universal Cycles).
NWTA's SK755 was the 2nd one delivered to a customer! They are that new and much improved. In addition to the standard bucket, we purchased a vibrating plate compactor, 6-way blade, and 12" auger. This machine will be used as a support machine with the ST240 for building trails. For updates on an "unveiling" celebration hosted at the Lumberyard, equipment next in line for purchase and to find out more information on the NWTA Trail Development Partnership Program follow this link to the NWTA events calendar or check our Facebook group. |

Best Work Party of the Year!
EasyCLIMB "Best Work Party of the Year" happened Saturday. Originally planned as the "Worst Work Party of the Year", weather changed and we were blessed with calm wind, clear skies and no rain. Over 20 volunteers, including the NWTA ladies, worked, played and enjoyed the ever present fire. We did determine that frozen ground is hard to work though.

In appreciation for their hard work the following people also get VIP parking and maybe a hot dog at the next Dimwits. So next time you see them thank them for their contribution:
Linda Fanning, Todd Beach, Tim Goodwin, Ron Strasser, Rob Helms, Wayne Nussbahm, Jaime Menagh, Mike Reed, Andy Jansky, Andy Crump, Holly Howell, Susan Martin, Linda Watts, Morgan Powers, Steve Johnson, Corbett Tulip, Kelsey Cardwell, Jason Sergeant, Rebecca Sergeant, Mary Mae Sergeant, Paul Norris, Mel Norris and a few others who did not sign in...
For more information on EasyCLIMB trail status, the NWTA ladies build projects, and upcoming events out at Cascade Locks follow this link to our website and calendar.

Washington Student Mountain Biking enters 3rd season
Next week, local high school and middle school students will begin training for the 3rd season of riding and racing in the newly formed Washington Student Mountain Bike League. The benefits of a redesigned program that focuses not only on racing and competition, but does more to empower our student athletes to be leaders within their teams, schools and their community to be stewards of the our trails, forest, and environment.
Due to a large demand for a program that includes younger athletes, beginning this year, 7th and 8th grade students can participate in the season as well. Currently we have two teams established in SW Washington. We will also be hosting a race again this year at Washougal MX park. It is encouraged that more teams be developed in our area, including the Portland Area. If you are interested in starting a team and/or getting 7th-12th grade students involved, contact Ed Fischer at ed@camasbikes.com or Lisa Miller at lisa@evergreenmtb.org League website is www.washingtonleague.org

The BLM 20 Year Plan Wants You!
BLM is hungry for local perspectives and local knowledge not just about outdoor activities and settings, but what these things mean to mountain biking communities. Instead of commenting on a 20 year plan for about 2.5 million acres after it's written, this time we get to inform BLM's thinking before they write the plan. Are you willing to help out?
If you have some thoughts on new single track, key crags, candidate wild and scenic rivers, backcountry solitude or front country access, now is the time to share what you think. BLM is hosting series of outreach and mapping sessions throughout western Oregon starting at the end of January. The sessions will run from 4:30 pm to 8:30pm.
- Medford - 1/29 - BLM District Office, 3040 Biddle Road
- Roseburg - 1/30 - Umpqua Business Center, 522 SE Washington Ave.
- Springfield - 1/31 - Public Library, 225 North 5th St.
- Portland - 2/5 - Mazamas Mountaineering Center
If you cannot make the session, you can still weigh-in with BLM online:
