Are We There Yet? A Progress Report on Jobs and the Recession by Metro

In this brief, we examine current employment growth and where the nation's 372 metro areas stand relative to earlier employment totals. 
  
Currently 80 percent of all U.S. metros have greater average employment in the first quarter of 2013 than in the first quarter of 2012.  In fact over the last two years about 78 percent of all 372 U.S. metros have been adding employment.
  
But the question remains, since the recession ended officially as of June 2009, and most metros have been adding jobs for at least the last two years; are we back to previous employment levels reached four years earlier?
