Greetings! |
Despite distributing over 39,490 balls, the need and demand for more Kick For Nick soccer balls is growing around the world. In addition to the children in Iraq & Afghanistan, children in India, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Lebanon & Jordan are all recent recipients of your generosity.
One of the challenges we face is the excessive cost for shipping the balls to locations other than US military bases. When sending to non-military locations the costs can be prohibitive. We are working to find other ways to distribute the balls but if you would like to make a donation to offset these expenses you can use the donation button to the right. We also welcome any suggestions you might have to reduce these expenses (you can reply to this email with your thoughts).
We thank you for your donations which give the Kick For Nick Foundation the ability to bring moments of childhood fun to the lives of children who are living daily in harsh conditions. Please enjoy the photos below that demonstrate the good that comes from a single soccer ball.
Many thanks,
Bill & Shalini Madaras

Shalini & Chris Madaras Visit the Siena Home/ St. Lucy School in India:
|
In June, Shalini & Chris Madaras visited the Siena Home/St. Lucy School in south India. This Home & School was established in memory of a young girl from Katonah, NY and houses about 600 children who were rescued after being sold by their families to harvest sunflower fields or tend buffalo herds. Shalini & Chris distributed soccer balls and jerseys collected by parents in the Wilton Soccer Association as well as several other organizations and donors.

7TH ANNUAL NICK MADARAS MEMORIAL DAY CHALLENGE
|
Memorial Day 2013 was a beautiful day in Wilton, CT as the Ancient Warriors faced off in a 3-team round robin tournament versus Nick's former teammates and the coaches from Soccer Extreme. The Ancient Warriors were fortunate to have a ringer on their team when Kristine Lilly, Olympic Gold Medalist & World Champion, joined them on the pitch.
Nearly 1000 fans came to enjoy a day of soccer in honor of PFC Nicholas A Madaras and the Kick For Nick Foundation.

KFN Soccer Balls Brighten Lives in Nicaragua
|
Below is a brief description of the Yale Alumnae Service Corps trip to Nicaragua...

On a visit to Leon, Nicaragua we went to the village of Torhillo. This was a poor small community in the sugar fields. No running water, no electricity. Houses were 400 sq ft shacks. Education went only to six grade and very few people in the village live to over 50 years old (they die from sugar cane field chemicals and lack of water).
This group of 70 people from Yale Alumnae Service Corp included a medical tent, construction crew, sports crew, education crew who spent the week helping out. When I got there, kids were playing with a deflated soccer ball. We provided 20 soccer balls (6 Kick For Nick inscribed). These balls were used all day long. Boys played soccer, girls a version of kick ball on a baseball field (although field was a dried up dust lot). The balls were a great sensation to these poor kids. |
