Greetings! |
Memorial Day is this coming Monday, May 31 and as we remember Nick, we hope you will keep him in your heart along with all the other US Military members who have proudly served our country and valiantly given their lives in its support and defense. |
PFC Nicholas Madaras on ABC-TV & Military Channel Profiles |
We are very proud that Nick will be one of three service people who will be profiled by ABC-TV in brief 1-minute segments. The segments will be airing on Memorial Day, Monday May 31 at approximately 1PM ET - just prior to the start of the Indy 500.
In addition, starting on or about Memorial Day, the American Legion & the Military Channel will jointly air a series of 1-minute pieces about fallen heroes. Currently, 10 heroes are being featured and PFC Nick Madaras will be one of them. The segments will be aired 2-3 times each day for an entire year.

From the Front Lines |
Sir,
I am a Navy JAG (attorney) who just got in the ground in Afghanistan. I have been sent here as part of the new COIN strategy which focuses on reconstruction. I've also been advised that I should focus on small projects that help the Afghans at the local level.
I'm writing all of this because I saw the ESPN video on Nick a few years back before I was in the Navy. It really moved me. I never thought I'd be in the position to be a part of what Nick started but I am writing you because I'd like to be. As I mentioned I am in charge of developing the small projects that my team will carry out. I played soccer in college at Claremont McKenna (a small division 3 school in southern California). I'd like to start a small soccer league here in Herat. Like the children in Iraq, these children are too poor to buy soccer balls. I'd love to get something started where some of the soccer balls donated come our way.
I hope that we can work together on this. I would like to carry on Nick's memory here in Afghanistan as well and continue Nick's dream of giving children the opportunity to play soccer. Thank you.
Very Respectfully,
LT Jasmine Scott JAGC, USN

Mr. Madaras
All balls are going to be welcomed here. This place has been said to be economically worse off than Iraq. The children here have very rarely seen a new ball. I can't express my thanks enough for your help on this.
