As of July 2009, 23,032 soccer balls have been distributed by our soldiers to the children of Iraq and Afghanistan.
Our thanks to all who have donated the balls, their time and/or funds for shipping them to our troops. Take a look at the email below that very much describes the importance of this effort.

An Email From the Front Lines |
The following email from Captain Brian Palmer of the US Army exactly describes the important value of Kick For Nick....
3-27-09 Dear Bill,
I have requests from my platoons and companies for more soccer balls. My Soldiers want soccer balls to hand out when they go on patrols. We are going into more and more formerly Al Qaeda villages. In most cases it is some Soldiers on a foot patrol and the rest protecting them. The Soldiers talk to some of the elders and hand the soccer balls to the village children.
This does several things for us. It makes my Soldiers feel good about helping the locals in some small way; it breaks the ice in conversations with the locals; it puts a friendly face on Americans. This all makes it safer for my Soldiers. So in truth Kick for Nick helps to keep Soldiers safe and helps to build local community relations. The Soldiers like it, the Iraqi parents like it and the Iraqi children like it. All of this is great.
Bill we can use more soccer balls. Thanks, Brian Palmer |
