As spring time approaches, we know you're itching to get life organized. So let us help! Clear out the clutter and donate those new and gently used items to Our Towns Habitat ReStores. Every donation helps us to impact our community through new construction or home repairs for a deserving family in need. Your next donation could build a roof!
Do you think your neighbor's have donations too? Then host a Neighborhood Blitz! Multiple families with lots to donate can schedule a free neighborhood pick-up to collect donations in one fell swoop! To schedule your free pick-up, call 704-896-8957 ext. 204, or email
Jean Flynn .
Donations can be dropped off at either ReStore location, Cornelius or Mooresville, during normal business hours. Large items can be picked up, FREE of charge in the 4 towns we serve: Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, and Mooresville.
Your donations help to change the lives of deserving Habitat families.

Our Towns Habitat's 25th Year
This, our 25th year, has seen so many things change here at Our Towns Habitat. We have served almost 2,500 global families with housing solutions, and none of it would have or could have happened without YOU being there to embrace our mission and support it. Our families have inspired all of us, our board, our volunteers, and our staff.
I would like to share with you what I presented to our Board of Directors on January 23rd:
"In 1996, a family tragedy changed my life focus. Our Towns Habitat's mission took hold of me, and has been all consuming, which, in turn, has brought an amazing amount of joy in my life.
Then, in October of 2011, I began working with Ronni Fridman as my Leadership Coach. I thought I was the last person who would ever need a leadership coach before that, however Ronni was able to help me in understanding the strengths and gifts that inspire me. I'm now a firm believer that everyone needs a coach!
Have you ever wanted something you were afraid of doing, when the fear of not doing it became greater than the fear of doing it?
This happened to me, so I have decided to pursue work in some entity of Habitat International or the Habitat State Support Organization in NC. A few promising conversations along those lines over the past six months have occurred, and are continuing. But if that doesn't work out I have no worries as God just hasn't revealed his plan for me as yet.
My strengths of vision, passion for the mission, teaching others, soliciting donors, gathering support and the impact of tithe in growing an affiliate have been demonstrated over the past 10 years. This can be seen both here at Our Towns Habitat and in working with over 50 Habitat affiliates across the U.S. and Guatemala, through both the Subject Experience Team with Habitat International, and on my own.
I desire to transition from Our Towns Habitat over the next several months, while working with a succession committee for a smooth/seamless transition.
I am grateful for the opportunities in life, the people I have met and those I have worked with at Our Towns Habitat. My time here has been an extended blessing for me.
----
I will be transitioning from Our Towns over the next few months and will be available for what one of our board members calls relaying "tribal knowledge" which would be invaluable to an incoming leader. Since making the announcement to my Board, my spirit has been lifted tremendously, as it did again January 24th, when I informed our full staff.
Acting Executive Director, Enrique Sanchez, will be announced more publicly, shortly, and is already on board, working closely with staff in the day to day work that keeps this affiliate moving forward. I know he is excited to be here and has an extensive background with Habitat and I am very happy to say, is a firm believer in our tithe! Enrique is also infected with that virus called Habitatitus. Once you catch it, you can't get away from it.
I am excited for what lies in my future and excited about the future of Our Towns Habitat!
Habitat for Humanity is, indeed, life changing, as it has forever changed mine!
God IS great!!
Take care,
Terry Laney

AmeriCorps Construction Crew
By Jenny Lee, AmeriCorps Construction Crew Leader
Working with families to build a new home and a new life for themselves is an amazing experience. It is one I recommend to everyone. There are so many ways to work with these families that everyone can join in and work together as a community. It is something I have seen firsthand as an Americorps Member.
As I approach the five month mark of my service and just celebrated the dedication of the first house I have been a part of from the foundation to the finish, I have been reflecting on where the days have gone. I find that I get caught up in the daily tasks and material lists and sometimes forget to look at the big picture. Looking back, I realize that the celebration on February 3rd was not just celebrating the completion of another task list.
During the home blessing, we celebrated the life and dedication of an amazing, community minded couple, The Shoafs, and the continued commitment to community shown by their children. This family co-sponsored the building of this home at 12110 Palomar St and were often seen on site working beside Miss Bettie to build her home.
The Blessing also celebrated the commitment of three CMS middle schools in helping their community. Students, staff, and faculty of J.M. Alexander, Bailey, and Bradley middle schools worked to raise money to co-sponsor this house. 2x6's were delivered to each of the schools and signed by the students. These 2x6's became the studs that are the framework for this house. Now, those students, teachers, administrators, and staff will always be a part of this house! Several youth and adults from these schools have been present on site and have worked hard to help in the process.
For me, the Blessing celebrated five months of hard work and learning. I have worked on this house five days a week since late September. I have delivered materials, led volunteers, driven nails, caulked, painted, roofed, sweat, and bled. I feel that a part of myself has gone into the building of this house. Though I have been involved in construction for many years, this is the first house that I have worked on from beginning to end. It is the first time I have seen a lot cleared, a footer poured, and every other step of the process leading to completion.
None of this however compares to the celebration of Miss Bettie. She is a warm, loving member of our community. She has faced struggles in her life, as we all have, and has overcome. While each homeowner is required to work 400 hours on other houses and their own, Miss Bettie went above and beyond that requirement. She has worked 700 hours toward this goal. Each Saturday, she was there working beside the Shoaf family, the middle schools, and countless other volunteers. February 3rd marked the end of one chapter of her life and the beginning of another. Miss Bettie is now a homeowner. She has a place that is her own. A home with walls that she can paint, rooms she can decorate, and a table she can set with friends. She has worked hard to reach this point and without a doubt will continue to work to maintain and love this home.
It was an honor to be a small part of this process and a huge joy to celebrate the Blessing of Miss Bettie's home and all that it stands for!
