AEDC Board
Meet Board Member
Kathy Montagne

Kathy Montagne has served on the AEDC Board of Directors since 2004. She also serves on the executive and audit committees, and has previously served on the program committee.

"I joined the Board after a community-wide study of the economic impact of child care and early childhood was conducted and shared with the community," Montagne recalled. "The Director of AEDC invited me to join the Board in order for there to be a voice for the numerous non-profit organizations in our community."

Montagne has been the Executive Director of Northcoast Children's Services for 26 years, which provides Head Start, Preschool, Childcare and Early Head Start programs  to over 1,000 children in 25 locations in Humboldt and Del Norte counties. "Managing State and Federal funding and 240 staff in many settings and communities has been relevant to my service with AEDC.

Montagne also had first hand experience with AEDC when they worked together to finance a project. "AEDC funded loans for us in the 1980's for facilities in a Community Development Project with the City of Arcata and I was impressed with their knowledge of the community and professionalism."

Montagne said the opportunities for larger Community Partnership projects and an increase in the diversity of funders and opportunities to fund projects and businesses in a much larger geographic area is part of her attraction to the AEDC Board. "I also served on the [AEDC] Program Committee as Chair," She said. "It was gratifying to see the IDA program grow as AEDC took over the project. Lemonade Day offers an opportunity for school age kids to "learn by doing" about starting a small business and Spotlight on Success brings the community together to celebrate  our small businesses and learn from each other."

Montagne is currently the AEDC Board Secretary, and also serves on the Eureka Housing Advisory Board, the Local Childcare Planning Council, and the Children's Oral Health Steering Committee.

SBA Commercial Property 504 rates

SBA Logo

SBA 504 Current
 Rate:
5.14%
  • Low down payment for borrowers
  • Competitive fixed interest rate
  • Long Term loan
  • From $50,000 to $5 million for commercial real estate, construction and equipment acquisition.
Many commercial loans available on the market require a sizeable percentage down before the loan will be granted, and this can be an obstacle for many business owners looking to improve their facilities. The SBA 504 Loan offers a solution for that -- you can borrow up to 90% of your financing needs at a fixed rate, so only a minimum of 10% down is required.

The remainder is split between the SBA loan (40%) and a bank loan (50%), and the Arcata Economic Development Corporation will work with your bank to submit your loan application. Loan amounts range from $50,000 to $5 million, and some restrictions apply.
