OLLI Classes Reminders

OLLI Classes start tomorrow!

We hope you have a wonderful time and enjoy every minute of learning and socializing. We also want to extend a special welcome to our classmates who are attending for the first time!

To help prepare those of you attending classes, we've compiled some notes and reminders below.
  • Please park and utilize the shuttle that serves both Westminster Church and Shea Stadium. Peoria Charter Coaches will transport members to and from Shea Stadium; the OLLI shuttles will transport members to and from Westminster Church. The OLLI Parking Captains are on site at both locations to assist you each morning.
  • Shuttle service begins at 7:45 a.m. and runs continuously all day. Please note: If you have an 8:30 a.m. class, be sure to arrive at your parking location early to allow sufficient time to get to class. To request pickup anytime during the day, call the OLLI Cell Phone at (309) 258-4142.

  • On the first day of class, please check in and pick up your name tag at the registration desk in the Michel Student Center, second floor.
  • A printed list of announcements will be available at the registration desk at the Michel Student Center and Westlake each morning.
  • CATCH A RIDE TO WESTLAKE! We're utilizing the new OLLI Shuttle to transport you to and from Westlake Hall and the Michel Student Center. Bradley University Student Admission Representatives (STARs) will be available to pick-up and drop-off OLLI members in front of the Student Center and behind Westlake Hall throughout the day. If you need assistance during the day, please call (309) 258-4142.
  • Our breaks with beverages and snacks will be offered in two locations: Ballroom B of the Michel Student Center (2nd floor) and the first floor atrium of Westlake Hall.
  • The buffet lunches will be served in the Ballrooms of the Michel Student Center. Daily buffet lunch tickets may be purchased BEFORE 9:00 a.m. at our registration desk on the second floor of the Michel Student Center.  If you pre-purchased the four buffet lunches, your OLLI name badge will indicate the purchase with a green dot for hearty buffet or a blue dot for healthy buffet.
  • If you choose to eat at the Michel Student Center Marketplace, you will have a variety of choices:  Chick-fil-A (chicken sandwiches), Topio's (pizza and pasta), Moe's (southwestern grill), Greens-to-Go (soup and salads), and POD, a convenience market with to-go food items.

Registration Open for Teddy, Franklin and Eleanor: A Look at the Three Roosevelts with Ken Burns

Thursdays, May 7 - June 18
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Peoria NEXT Innovation Center

Starting on May 5, 2015, PBS and WTVP will once again air Ken Burns' seven episode documentary called The Roosevelts: An Intimate History. In this series, Burns chronicles the lives of Theodore, Franklin, and Eleanor Roosevelt, three members of perhaps the most prominent and influential family in 20th century American political history. Between 1858 and 1962 (Teddy Roosevelt's birth and Eleanor's death), the Roosevelts redefined the relationship Americans had with their government and the wider world. Major historical events of that time period will be interwoven with their personal stories throughout the series. Paul Giamatt (Teddy), Edward Herrmann (Franklin), and Meryl Streep (Eleanor) will provide the voices of the three Roosevelts.

Join in a lively discussion of the many dimensions of the Roosevelt story based on viewing the Burns documentary. Participants must be able to watch this series as it is aired (multiple showings will be available on WTVP) and participate in group discussions based on study questions provided by the facilitator. Participants may read The Three Roosevelts by James MacGregor Burns and Susan Dunn or Geoffrey Ward's companion book for the series, titled The Roosevelts: An Intimate History. These titles are  recommended, but not required. These titles may be purchased online or obtained through local libraries.

$45- Facilitated by Carol May, OLLI Cinema Committee Chair

OLLI Executive Committee Strategic Plan

OLLI embarked on its first-ever strategic planning process in October 2014.  The objective of this process was to assess current key issues, define essential organization characteristics, determine core member needs and expectations, and specify critical success factors in order to enhance and improve the lifelong learning program.

OLLI Executive Committee members and recent OLLI Past Presidents, under the guidance of Dr. Aaron Buchko, Professor of Management at Bradley University, have given many hours of their time to devote to this strategic plan.

Please click below to view a summary of the Strategic Plan.

Volunteer at Peoria PlayHouse Children's Museum

This June, the Peoria Park District will be opening a children's museum in the Glen Oak Park Pavillion building.  The Peoria PlayHouse will be a hands-on, interactive children's museum where children, along with their families, will dream, explore, and learn through play.

As they prepare to open their doors in June, 2015 they need a solid group of wonderful volunteers to help the PlayHouse be a huge success!

If you are interested in volunteering as a greeter, facilitator of play areas, or in another way, please contact Kristin Vannatta, Operations Manager, at 309-232-6900.
