I'm now sure how it got to be August already, but here we are! If you haven't yet traveled on the Cape Water Taxi, stop reading and go now! It's a leisurely ride on the canal where you can experience Lewes, Rehoboth and Dewey from a new perspective. In Lewes, you'll enjoy the osprey, eagles and wildlife. When your boat glides through the water in Rehoboth Beach, the view changes from nature to million dollar homes. In Dewey, the canal opens into the Rehoboth Bay, then it's water, water, everywhere! Hop off the boat for lunch at Que Pasa, where you can have your toes in the sand with a margarita in hand; then get back on board for the return trip to Lewes. I've taken friends, family and clients and everyone's loved it 'cause nothing's better than being on the water!
So many options, so little time! This weekend the Lewes Historical Society brings you the 50th Outdoor Antiques Show at the Historical Society Complex. At the Complex, you can also tour these historic buildings: the Midway School (1898), Rabbit's Ferry House (1741), Doctor's Office (1850), and Thompson Country Store (1800). Also this weekend is the 35th Annual Sandcastle Contest in Rehoboth Beach at the north end of the Boardwalk. This is serious sculpting by more than 100 teams and 800 participants! Saturday night (Aug 3) is the Annual Beach Ball benefit for the Rehoboth Beach Museum. Or you can choose to play the Dewey Beach Scavenger Hunt!
Dewey Beach offers free fun every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday . On Mondays at 8:30 p.m., check out free movies; on Tuesdays starting at 3:00 p.m., get happy feet with radio station 93.5 The Beach. On Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m., bring your marshmallows for a bonfire! All events are free and held on the beach at 1 Dagsworthy Street through August 28.
Another place I can't get enough of is the newest Touch of Italy! Wowee zowee! It's huge! Lots of seating, an enormous deli & market, baked goods, wood fired oven, and a lovely bar. I've been three times since they opened and all I can say is, don't miss the olive bread appetizer. (I have to sit back from the keyboard when I write about food since I tend to drool!)
Are you familiar with Meet Up? It's an online program that helps people find others with like interests. I recently joined the VegRehoboth group (115 members) and 25 of us went to lunch at Nectar Cafe in Lewes. There's all kind of groups for this area including Latin and Ballroom Dance Lovers, Gay Women of Rehoboth, stand up paddleboarders and lots more!
Clear Space Theatre invites you to check out RADIO GAGA: A GLEE-full Music Event. This musical revue takes today's biggest hits and gives them the Broadway treatment. If you like Adele, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Beyonce, you'll go gaga for this show! Now through Sep 7.

A Halloween store is going into the space formerly occupied by Stackhouse Collectibles (behind the Delaware Distilling Company) and Christmas Tree Hill is in the former Tiger Lili space in Tanger Bayside. (Tiger Lili moved to a different space in the same center.) Bonkey's Ice Cream and Snoballs has opened in the former Gelato Gal space. Jersey Mike's is now open near Superfresh.
I tend to venture a little further out of town for entertainment and feasting once it gets a little crowded on Route 1. Friends recently invited me to check out dolce bakery in Milford and now I'm addicted. Some of the most amazing pastries I've found in the area, along with the nicest staff. They offer bagels, breakfast sandwiches, coffees, breads and ice cream. It's worth the trip - trust me on this! Read the dolce dolce review on RehobothFoodie.com and also check out what he has to say about Pint, now open in Millsboro.
All this talk about food has made me hungry, so I'm off... see you next time!
