Dear Girl Scouts:

On behalf of your Board of Directors, I am excited to share that Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida has named Lisa Johnson as Chief Executive Officer of our organization. After conducting a national search, Lisa was selected from a pool of more than a hundred candidates to assume this important leadership role.

Lisa is a 20- year veteran of Girl Scouting, having joined the legacy Girl Scouts of  Palm Glades Council as Director of Communications in 1996. She most recently served as Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida's Chief Strategy Officer, where she was  responsible for marketing, fund development, product sales and retail operations. Prior to joining the Girl Scouts, Lisa served as Director of Marketing and Communications for the American Red Cross in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was at the Red Cross that Lisa honed her crisis communications skills, serving as the  chief spokesperson for both the local chapter and the Carolinas Blood Region, which covered parts of four states. She started her career in event management for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's Greater Carolinas Chapter.

A graduate of the University of Central Florida, where she earned a B.S. in  Marketing, Lisa went on to earn her MBA from the University of North Carolina at  Charlotte and her Accreditation in Public Relations. She is a graduate of Leadership Palm Beach County, where she currently serves on the Board of Directors, and is a founding member of Impact the Palm Beaches. She is active in a number of community organizations.

When asked about the opportunity to lead our Council, Lisa shared "I am honored to assume the role of CEO for Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida and look forward to partnering with our volunteers, Girl Scout families and staff team to further strengthen Girl Scouting in our communities. I have had the pleasure of watching an entire generation of girls grow up in our program and I am grateful for the opportunity to ensure that Girl Scouting will continue to be an amazing place for their daughters, their granddaughters, and for generations to come."

Lisa succeeds Denise Valz, who retired after a 28-year Girl Scout career, including the last eleven in south Florida. Denise was the first CEO for Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida after the 2008 merger of two legacy councils.

Please join me in congratulating Lisa and welcoming her to her new role. While she looks forward to sharing more information on her plans and vision in the coming months, she also welcomes your feedback and suggestions. You can reach Lisa via email at ljohnson@gssef.org or by phone at 561-427-0175.

Sincerely,

Lorna Brown-Burton
