Important Fall Product Sale Information

2015 Fall Product Sale Program: October 1 - November 15

Go ahead and mark your calendars now because the GSSEF Fall Product Sale Program will be here soon. It is intended to reach family, friends, teachers and neighbors. It's an awesome way for  troops to earn money for their programs and activities throughout the year and girls can earn rewards. The Council's Fall Product Sale Program helps girls develop five key leadership skills: goal-setting, decision making, people skills, money management and business ethics.

Girls can sell nuts and candy items and magazine subscriptions to anyone - friends, family, neighbors, and teachers, online and in person.

Also this year, girls will be selling Enjoy the City coupon books in person.

Volunteers and families are integral to the success of our product sales and we appreciate your support during the 2015 Fall Product Sale Program.

Look for additional information in the coming weeks.

Summer Funshine

August is the last month for Summer Funshine activities! Girl Scouting does not have to stop when school is out. Troops can continue Girl Scout activities throughout the summer, even if it's just once a month. Summer Funshine provides an opportunity to do some things your troop didn't have time or resources to do during the school year and is an excellent opportunity to introduce bridging Girl Scouts to the rest of the girls in the troop. In addition, the program encourages retention of our girl members.

To learn how girls can earn the Summer Funshine patch or bar, click here. Remember that all Summer Funshine applications are due September 30.

For more information, contact Catalina Cano at [email protected] or Meredith Slaymaker at [email protected].

Girl Scout Highest Awards - New Website Updates

Have you seen all the new and exciting changes to our Bronze, Silver and Gold Award page? Are you interested in pursuing a High Award? Make your way over to our Girl Award web page to learn the step-by-step process on how to earn Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards!

Highlights:

The Gold Award has gone PAPERLESS!

GSSEF has recently converted the Gold Award process to GSUSA's Go Gold Online platform. Through this system, girls will have the opportunity to upload their proposal, track their progress, and even complete their final report all online! Make sure to visit our Girl Awards page for more information.

Besides the obvious 'green' benefits of moving to this system, GSSEF will also be able to easily nominate girls and their projects for GSUSA's National Young Women of Distinction award. As of May 2015, this is the only way that GSSEF can recognize and nominate girls  that meet the criteria for the award.

Have a Silver or Gold Award question?  For girls that have questions about the awards, GSSEF has created easy-to-remember email boxes:

Seeking Gold Award Advisors

Our team of adult volunteer Gold Award Advisors support high school age girls as they work towards achieving the prestigious Gold Award. This is a Council-Level position, appointed by the Director of Program for 2-year terms. It is a rewarding role for adults who can act as part mentor, coach, problem-solver, advocate and cheerleader for girls. If you would like to learn more, email Lammy Askar at [email protected].

Seeking Photos for National Grandparents Day

Did you know that many grandparents are active members in Girl Scouting troops and activities in our Council? True! Are you a Girl Scout grandparent? National Grandparents Day is September 13. We want to meet you! Email a pic of you and your granddaughter to: [email protected]. Thank you.

I Can't Wait for My Next Girl Scout Adventure!

Are you planning your next cool Girl Scout adventure? Has your troop tried geocaching? One of Troop #10646's favorite activities is geocaching and they have even located a few geocaches while camping. This amazing Girl Scout trefoil geoart design is compliments of Troop #10646's Co-Leader and daughter (who is part of the troop).  All you need is the geocaching app.

With the geocaching app, you are able to see via a map where geocaches are according to your location. You would need to move the map to the area of I-75 and 595 (southeast corner) and refresh the page. At that point, it will show the geocaches in that area. On a phone you may need to zoom out to see the whole logo.

The 46 puzzle caches that form the trefoil are public so anyone with the geocache app can find them. All the puzzle questions are Girl Scout related too. How awesome!

Learn more about Geocaching in Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoints (Land).
