Launching the GSSEF System for Creating Your Own 'Council's Own Badge'

We are excited to share our new GSSEF system for girls who are interested in creating a Council's Own Badge. The opportunity to create a new, original badge program is a Girl Scout tradition. Now we offer an easy-to-use submission form on our website.

Additionally, we have created a document that girls can download (and read, keep, etc.) to learn all about the process and requirements. Creating a Council's Own Badge is far from easy; but for girls who have a great idea, these are the tools to use.

Once a Council's Own Badge is approved and produced, it will appear on our website for ALL Girl Scouts - in ANY Girl Scout Council - to earn too. This is a way to change the world...of Girl Scouting!

Help Us Update Our Cookies for the Military Campaign!

It's time again to update our Cookies for the Military campaign materials. We'd love to be able to take photos of members of the military (in uniform) with Girl Scouts for use during the 2015 campaign. If you are a member of the military or know someone that is and are interested, please email Melinda Glasco at mglasco@gssef.org. Also if you have any photos of your girls with members of the military, please send those in as well.

Centenarian Girl Scout Honoree, Pearle Gay Shepard, dies at age 102

Pearle Gay Shepard was honored at the 2013 Girl Scouts Forever Green celebration as our Special Centenarian Girl Scout Honoree.

Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida was saddened by the news that Ms. Pearle Gay Shepard died recently at the age of 102. Born in 1912, the same year Girl Scouts were formed, was introduced to Girl Scouts in her early 20's when she became one of the first volunteers with the Joseph Conrad troop as first mate to the skipper of the  Maritime Program in Florida. In the 1950's, Ms. Shepard joined the staff of GSUSA.

Pearle Gay Shepard spent three years with the Girl Scouts in England during the 1960's. While there, Ms. Shepard had the privilege of meeting Lady Baden Powell and often said that her association with Lady Powell was the highlight of her years of service in England.

Ms. Shepard was devoted to Girl Scouts her entire adult life and, as part of her final wishes, she requested that donations be made to Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida

to support the mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.

For more information about making a donation to GSSEF in memory of Ms. Shepard, please contact Lauren Mathers at lmathers@gssef.org.
