I Heard It Through the Green Grapevine

This recurring feature will help dispel the myths and rumors we often hear through the Girl Scout "Green Grapevine." Most of the answers can be found in our Essentials documents in the Volunteer Vault.

Dear Green Grapevine-

My troop is taking a field trip to the science museum.  It's our first trip.  Some of the parents in my troop can't go and their girls will need to ride with other adults.  Is that ok?

Thanks-

Patty Wagon

Annual Girl Scout Cookie Sale Program: January 23 - February 16

What Can a Girl Do?

You probably know how tasty Girl Scout cookies are but you may not realize how important the experience of selling Girl Scout Cookies is to a girl. Participating in the Girl Scout Cookie Sale Program helps girls learn life-long skills such as goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics.

While the Cookie Sale Program begins January 23, 2014, girls are busy now, marketing and promoting the Cookie Sale to their customers.

Check out our Girl Scout Cookie Sale Program web page for additional information, resources and links to online activities.

Upcoming Programs

Did you know that Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida offers a full year-round Calendar of Programs? Here are some of the Programs that are coming up in the next few months.

Cookie U is coming January 11!

The 4th Annual Cookie U will be offered in two locations on Saturday, January 11, 2014 and is offering some big bucks back to the girls because we know that girls who attend Cookie U simply sell more cookies. With three years of Cookie U program experience, we think our 2014 program is going to be  the best yet. Girls will earn GSUSA Leaves and Badges and go home with them on the same day. Now, when girls attend Cookie U in 2014 each will earn 3 cents* more per cookie box sold in the 2014 Sale.

Cookie University has two locations, in Hollywood and Stuart, this year and is open to all registered Daisy, Brownie, Junior and Cadette Girl Scouts in Hollywood and Stuart. The Cookie U program includes earning all requirements for the Daisy Leaves AND the Brownie-Junior-Cadette Badges. The registration fee is $14.00 per girl and includes all program supplies, all of the earned Leaves or Badges as listed by grade-level, an official Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida Cookie U patch, a graduation certificate and a light in-class snack.

The 6th Annual Engineering Family Fun Day

The 6th Annual Engineering Family Fun Day (EF2D), co-sponsored by SWE9Society of Women Engineers) & NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers) was held on Saturday, November 9 at Dreher Park in West Palm Beach. The objective of the program was to educate the community on engineering and spark an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math). This year's event consisted of nine activities that provided hands-on learning about engineering and science.

Troop 20188

There were 29 Girl Scout participants out of the 102 attendees representing nine  troops. Each girl received a science badge, based on the number of activities completed as stamped on their EF2D Passport.

At every location, students had the opportunity to meet and talk to engineers about where they work, what they do, and how to become an engineer.
