Surgical Authorization Submissions (effective 4/1/16)
Servicing Provider Field
For inpatient and outpatient surgery authorizations, the requesting provider must enter both the facility and the specialist into the Servicing Provider field starting with requests submitted on April 1, 2016. This will automatically generate separate prior authorization numbers to the facility and to the specialist, and ensure that the corresponding claims appropriately match. Submitting Surgical Requests
As a reminder, surgical authorization requests must be submitted by the rendering specialist or facility. Surgical authorization requests initiated by the patient's Primary Care Provider (if the Primary Care Provider is not performing the surgery) will closed and will not be processed.

Claim Processing Enhancements
NHP is dedicated to ensuring that your claims are always processed accurately and timely, and we continuously look for ways to enhance the experience for our providers.
Handwritten Claim Submission Process Update Handwritten claims often result in slower processing times and payment errors, resulting in a negative experience for providers. Effective March 1, 2016, NHP will require that all original claims be typed, computer generated, or electronically submitted. Original claims that are handwritten will not be processed. This aligns with the corrected claim submission process instituted in November 2015.
Claims Correspondence Fax Number Update
To support providers who submit claims correspondence via fax, NHP has a new fax number available. Corrected claims, appeals, and all other claims correspondence should be faxed to 617-526-1902. The previous fax number, 617-772-5516, is being phased out and will no longer be in service.
