Zionsville Microloans Open Financing Doors for Local Business
Indianapolis Business Journal

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. - For years, Zionsville restaurant owner Patrick Mullen worked seemingly endless hours for the princely sum of $290 a week-which he usually returned to his fledgling business to chip away at its mountain of debt.

A late 2011 move from sprawling strip mall space to the cozy Brick Street Inn downtown helped Patrick's Kitchen and Drinks turn the corner, giving the eatery the boost it needed to begin eking out a profit.

"We were going gangbusters," Mullen recalled of the first six months in the new location.

Then came the fire. Investigators weren't able to determine the cause of the small brush fire just outside the kitchen, but the effect was clear: The restaurant closed for repairs in June 2012.

Indianapolis Business Journal

ANDERSON, Ind. - Nestle USA plans to invest $72 million to add a seventh production line to its plant in Anderson, the beverage maker announced Tuesday.

The Anderson City Council last year gave preliminary approval to a tax break worth as much as $14 million in hopes of landing the investment-and the new jobs that could accompany it.

At the time, Nestle's capital investment was estimated to be $166 million.

Nestle employs about 700 workers at the Anderson plant overlooking Interstate 69. A spokesman said officials don't know yet how many positions will be added.

Expected to be up and running sometime next year, the new line will increase production capacity for Nestle's Boost Complete nutritional drink and its Carnation Breakfast Essentials, according to a news release.

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -"Colorful with Montgomery County scenes" are the words being used in describing the new mural on the east side of the Journal Review Building. How artist Ann Stanley put together such a large project will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Monday in the Donnelley Room of the Crawfordsville District Public Library.

The meeting is open to the public as part of the Art League of Montgomery County's general meeting. The program is entitled "It Takes a Village to Create a Mural."

"We are excited to learn more about the project and how it came together," league vice-president Pat Stull said. "We are all anxiously awaiting for the mural to appear from start to finish."

Local artist and Hoover Elementary teacher Ann Stanley is overseeing the project. Stanley has used over one dozen local artists, nearly all of whom are Stanley's former students, to work on the mural that is easily seen at the corner of N. Washington and Market streets.

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - What turned out to be nearly a year's worth of work came to fruition when Main Street Greencastle was restored to the list of recognized Main Street communities in Indiana.

After a few years of dormancy, the group has been revived with a fresh sense of purpose, and now has the backing of the Office of Community and Rural Affairs at the state level.

"We wanted to make sure that we put together a good foundation for the group," current Main Street Board President Christian Shuck said.

"It was really important to make sure we took the appropriate steps so that Main Street could be as effective as possible," Shuck noted.

Those steps included recruiting a new board, completing an application to the state and revising bylaws for the organization.

"Now that we have the framework laid out, we can move forward with the real purpose of the organization," Shuck said.

The purpose is in the name. Focusing on the downtown area, the organization is designed to be a supporting arm for activities and keep "main street" alive.
