Greetings!

This newsletter is dedicated to the concerns of high school juniors and their families. We hope you find it useful!
Check List for High School Juniors
  1. Work on your personal statement early to allow for a relaxed flow of ideas.
  2. Plan and prepare for taking the SAT or ACT exam. Now is the time to build core skills for the spring examination. Determine whether the SAT or the ACT is most appropriate for the college(s) of your choice. Some colleges prefer one exam over the other.
  3. Consider how many advanced placement courses are necessary and reasonable to take during your junior and senior years.
  4. Explore college choices. Do you want to attend a large university, a small liberal arts college, or a conservatory? Consider other factors like distance from home, urban vs. rural setting, demographic mix, programs, teams, etc.
  5. Begin preparing a resume now.
  6. Examine whether your college choices will provide any employment assistance as you approach college graduation day.
  7. Ask your teachers for letters of recommendation. Everyone is busy during the end of the year, so ask early in your junior year.
  8. Work as an apprentice in an area that interests you. Volunteer your time to gain experience and demonstrate commitment.
  9. Investigate alternate training opportunities (community college terminal two-year programs; technical training in a trade; on the job technical or managerial training; internships; military opportunities).
  10. Take every opportunity to network with people who may be in a position to assist you now or in the future.
