Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,
I would like to thank the staff, students, and parents for the successful start to the second  semester.  Please continue to encourage your students to keep working hard.

This semester contains several activities, and all students will take the ACT Aspire test in May.  Teachers and students will be preparing for this test this semester, and you will be given a test schedule as the dates approach.

Please be aware of your student's internet activities.  We have filters at school, but cannot filter their use when they are not at school.  Most internet providers can help with setting up filters at home if you have questions.

We would also like to remind you to continue to monitor the care of the laptops.  Exposure to extreme temperatures can harm the machine, as well as contact with liquid.

The electronic gradebook is is a valuable tool you can use to keep up with your child's grades.

I strongly encourage you to join our PTA.  This is an effective way to be part of your child's education.

Dennis Siebenmorgen
Principal

Cheer/Drill Tryout Parent Meeting
There will be a MANDATORY meeting on February 16th at 6:00 in the Ramsey Cafeteria  for any student who is interested in trying out for Ramsey Cheerleader or Royal Blues dance teams.

This is an informational meeting and the student and a parent/guardian must be in attendance at this meeting.  Attending the meeting does not mean you have to try out in March, but you will not be allowed to try out if you are not at this meeting.

You will be given information about the tryout procedures, dates, and financial responsibilities if you make a team, along with other information so the student and parent can make the decision to dry out.

Cheer/Drill Clinic
There will be a cheer/dance clinic on February 20th from 9 to noon in the Ramsey Gym.  Seventh and eighth grade students that are planning on trying out for Ramsey Cheer or Royal Blues should try to attend this clinic.

This is not mandatory for tryouts but is highly recommended.  The current squads will be working with students on the skills they will need for tryouts.  They will be going over proper techniques for jumps, splits, kicks, turns, leaps, cheer motions,
and dance.

The cost of the clinic is $20.00.  There will be permission slips
given out at the tryout meeting on February 16th or you can pick one up from Coach East after that date.

Carnation and Candy for Valentine's Day
National Junior Honor Society will be selling carnations and candy goody bags for $1 during the lunch periods.

 Deliveries will be made on
Friday, February 12th, during lunch.

Parents who wish to order may contact Mrs. Bruce in the counseling office lbruce@fortsmithschools.org

Freshman Formal
Ramsey Freshman are invited for "A Night in Hollywood" on April 30th, 2016 at Fianna Hills Country Club. More information will be coming in March and tickets will be available for sale after spring break.

This is a parent-organized event and ALL Ramsey Freshman parents are welcomed to join in the planning process. The next planning meeting will be held Tuesday, February 16th at 7:00 pm at Fianna Hills Country Club. Watch for more information on the Ramsey-PTA Facebook page.

Promotion Policy

A 7th or 8th grade student must pass the equivalent of three (3) of the four (4) core academic courses (Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies) in order to be promoted to the next grade. Since two semester grades are issued in each course, this means that a student must have a minimum of six passing semester grades from these four classes.

A 9th grade student must earn a minimum of two (2) credits by the end of the school year in order to be promoted to the 10th grade at either Northside or Southside High School. A half unit of credit is earned for each passing semester grade.

Support your PTA - VOLUNTEER
The Ramsey Volunteer Committee is a very active part of Ramsey PTA.  Complete the Ramsey PTA Volunteer Survey that list various volunteer opportunities that may interest you.  Please take a moment to choose at least one activity where you can help our students.  This Volunteer Survey needs to be returned to your student's homeroom/first period teacher.
Arkansas Scholars Program

An Arkansas Scholar is a student in grades 9-12 who is committed to achieving and maintaining the following criteria:

  • at least 95% attendance annually (no more than 9 absences):
  • completion of Smart Core Curriculum;
  • earn no (semester) grade lower than a "C" (courses may be retaken to qualify);
  • completion of high school in eight consecutive semesters.

Scholars are recognized by the Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce and local employers through a system of awards and incentives, culminating with a luncheon for 12th graders who maintained Scholar status and with placement of a special seal on the Scholar's transcript.  Employers who recognize the seal have agreed to give priority in hiring to Arkansas Scholars.  UAFS scholarships are also available to Arkansas Scholars.

Note:  All ninth grade students begin the school year on the Arkansas Scholars list.  In order to remain on the list they must continue to meet the above criteria throughout high school.
