Message From Chris
Tomorrow is Election Day. Please exercise your right to vote. In the 97th House District, I ask for your support to continue my efforts as a principled conservative and advocate for middle-class families. I pledge to continue my commitment of faithfully serving the people of Hanover, New Kent and King William Counties for two more years.
I am running for re-election to be a voice for principled conservatism that gets results for working families. Virginians deserve leadership committed to the taxpayer and respecting of individual liberty. Serving the people of the 97th district in the Virginia House of Delegates is a tremendous honor that I take very seriously and never for granted. This year several statewide organizations have recognized my legislative leadership including the
- Virginia Retail Merchants Association
- Virginia Adult Day Health Services Association
- Virginia Pharmacists Association
- Virginia Nurses Foundation
- Virginia Commissioners of the Revenue Association
During my campaign I am proud to have received among many the following endorsements:
- Virginia State Chamber of Commerce - A Grade for Support of Business
- Virginia Association of Realtors
- Virginia Farm Bureau Federation AgPAC
- A Rating from the National Rifle Association
- Virginia Society for Human Life
In just a short time in office, my goal has been to become an effective, thoughtful and respected legislator while serving on the prominent Appropriations, Health Welfare and Institutions, and General Laws Committees. As a member of the budget committee, I am proud to have been part of turning $6 billion in shortfalls into three consecutive years of surpluses totaling $1.4 billion, without a tax increase.
In his endorsement of Peace's re-election, T. Scott Harris, Hanover Commissioner of the Revenue, stated, "I am extremely proud of the manner you have represented our County over the past eight years. Your commitment and hard work have been admirable and quite frankly energizing to me. I am happy to endorse your candidacy and whole heartedly support your efforts."
Jane Ladd, former Chair of the New Kent Republican Committee reflected, "I have had the pleasure of working with our Delegate over the past eight years. Chris Peace has continued to stand strong for Republican principals, regardless of the pressures from his surroundings. He has proven to be a man of his word. Because of his integrity, I am honored to stand by his, side for his re-election."
Sally Pearson, King William Commissioner of the Revenue writes about the recent session: "Thank you for everything you did during the last General Assembly session and all that you do for King William County. We are blessed to have such a fine representative. Thank you for your support and friendship."
As a Delegate to the Virginia General Assembly, I have honored my commitments, but I strongly believe that there is much more work to be done to make a smaller government and a stronger economy a reality. To improve our community's quality of life and sustain Virginia's economic recovery, government must lower the burden on taxpayers and respect individual liberty. Again, I ask for your vote.

Veterans Day Message
In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words: "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations..."(Source: US Department of Veterans Affairs).
Veterans Day has an important purpose; a celebration to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
I am deeply honored to stand with you in recognition of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country. I recognize the sacrifices of those who serve in our military and their families. I know that they assume a great risk for protecting and maintaining our freedoms. As your public servant, I want to encourage others to join us and those Americans who serve causes greater than their own self-interests.
Below is a list of local events to honor the service of our Veterans. I hope you will be able to attend one in your area.
Hanover:
All are invited to honor our military veterans by attending a Veterans Day memorial ceremony at Hanover Wayside Park on Thursday, November 11 at 2PM. Hanover Wayside Park is located on US Rt. 301 about a mile north of Hanover High School.
New Kent:
November 11 New Kent Middle School Veterans Day Tribute, 9 am. Open to the public. All veterans are especially invited.
King William:
VFW Post 8356 Commander Chris Birch invites you to attend a Veterans Day program at 11AM to be held at the Veterans Memorial Park, located in the Town of West Point on King William Avenue.

Virginia's Veteran ID Program
Virginia and its elected officials have committed to make Virginia the friendliest state for veterans. To that end, I am wanted to share with you today about a very important program to benefit the veterans of our District. In a partnership between the Department of Veterans Services (DVS) and the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) veterans will be able to obtain an official ID card identifying them as "Virginia Veterans."
For more information about the program, or to apply for the Veteran Identification Card, please visit this link
Why do Virginia's veterans need an ID Card?
More than 800,000 veterans live in Virginia, and until now most didn't have a way to show their veteran status. These men and women have given much for our country and they deserve to be recognized. The new Virginia Veterans ID card will help.
How do our veterans benefit?
Retail businesses and restaurants around the state offer an array of valuable discounts to veterans. Instead of having to carry a DD 214 military discharge document, veterans who have a Veterans ID card can simply show a convenient, wallet-sized card and receive the discounts they've earned through their service and sacrifice.
The Veterans discount program is just one way that we can show our support for those who have served in the military.
However, as this is a new program, there is still limited participation among local businesses and restaurants to offer discounts to Veteran Card holders. I encourage local businesses to enroll in the Virginia Veteran ID program as a participating business.

November is National Adoption Awareness Month
Governor McDonnell hopes to rally Virginia one more time to consider foster care adoption. Governor Bob McDonnell announced in early October that since January more than 800 children from Virginia's foster care system have been adopted or matched with a family who is going through the process of adopting. Governor McDonnell has placed a focus on foster care and adoption since the launch of the "Virginia Adopts: Campaign for 1,000" in May. As a result of this Campaign, 16 of the 20 longest waiting youth are among the 800 children who have been adopted or matched with families. One of the longest waiting children who was recently matched had been in the foster care system for over 16 years and was eligible for adoption for 14 years. In May, Governor McDonnell launched the "Virginia Adopts: Campaign for 1,000" from the steps of the Governor's Mansion. Former First Lady Anne Holton joined Governor McDonnell at the launch. In late July, the Campaign held informational rallies in nine localities. More than 900 participants attended these events where potential adoptive parents learned more about children waiting for adoption. These events were supported by Casey Family Programs, a national foundation working to improve foster care, which has supplied funding and support to the Campaign. The Campaign's next social media efforts will highlight Virginians' support for adoption and provide a focus on foster children who are 16 years and older. These teenagers who are approaching the age of 18 are most at risk of aging out of the foster care system without being matched with a permanent family. For more information about the "Campaign for 1,000" please view the Governor's video message and visit Virginia Adopts
