Happy Independence Day Week!

I write to you as an American and a Virginian. The celebration of Independence Day not only commemorates our independence from Great Britain, but also celebrates the American doctrines of liberty and freedom.

In the words of our first President, George Washington, "The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty and the destiny of the republican model of government are justly considered... deeply, ...finally, staked on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people."  It is our job to ensure that this great country remains the hope of the world.

july 4

July 4th is a day we pause to celebrate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and the history and traditions of our great Nation. As we gather with family and friends to enjoy barbecues, outdoor recreation, community patriotic concerts, and fireworks displays please remember America's first and founding principles.

Update: Hanover County School Board Appointments

On June 12, the Hanover Board of Supervisors appointed Norm Sulser and Sue Dibble as the new School Board representatives for the Cold Harbor and South Anna districts, respectively.   Norm and Sue Mrs. Dibble was appointed by a 7-0 vote and Mr. Sulser by a 6-0-1 vote, with Chickahominy's Angela Kelly-Wiecek abstaining. The new School Board members will be sworn in before the School Board's July meeting.

Having known Norman Sulser for many years, I know him to be an honorable man that has spent years and countless volunteer hours in service to the Hanover community. He previously served on the Hanover School Board with distinction.

During his time on the School Board he worked to ensure fiscal restraint in the budget while promoting continued high academic standards for Hanover Public Schools. Mr. Sulser's service to the educational needs of Hanover students continues as a substitute teacher at Lee Davis High School. He is well liked by students, staff and parents. Norm serves as a mentor that encourages students to apply themselves fully and achieve at high levels. He leads his students by example, with high expectations for their success. He will be a welcome addition to the Hanover School Board.
