SCCT Publishes Updates to Guidelines for the Interpretation and Reporting of Coronary CT Angiography

Vienna, VA (November 24, 2014) - The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) has published an update of the "SCCT Guidelines for the Interpretation and Reporting of Coronary CT Angiography: A Report of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography Guidelines Committee" document, which has been published in the September/October issue of the Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.

The Guidelines, updated from a 2009 document, provide detailed recommendations for the interpretation and reporting of coronary CT angiography. Given the significant changes in technology and scope of practice, the current version is aligned with modern clinical practice in coronary CTA. These recommendations, like the preceding version, were developed as an educational tool for practitioners to continue to improve the care for patients, in the interest of developing systematic standards of practice for coronary CTA based on the best available data or broad expert consensus.

"For many years, the global cardiac CT community has been turning to the SCCT guidelines regarding acquisition of cardiac CT and also regarding interpretation and reporting of cardiac CT," says Dr. Stephan Achenbach, Editor in Chief of the Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography. "Obviously, as technology evolves, such recommendations need to be adapted and modified. The Society of Cardiovascular CT has now issued new guidelines on the interpretation and reporting of coronary CT angiography, which reflect the more robust and more accurate results that can now be obtained. As the previous version, this will be a uniquely useful tool to the physician who performs and reports cardiac CT and I am convinced that it will continue to be an extremely useful source of information for many physicians worldwide."

A new writing group of cardiologists and radiologists was comprised for the revision work, and the original writing group served as a reviewing committee for the document. The full manuscript is available on the SCCT website here.
