Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) Publishes Expert Consensus Document on Computed Tomography Imaging Before Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI)/Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
Vienna, VA (December 31, 2012) - The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) is pleased to announce the publication of the SCCT Expert Consensus Document on Computed Tomography Imaging Before Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI)/Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) in the Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (JCCT). This consensus document provides recommendations about the use of CT imaging in patients scheduled for TAVR/TAVI, including data acquisition, interpretation, and reporting.
The SCCT Writing Group, headed by Dr. Stephan Achenbach of Erlangen, Germany has been developing this document since early 2012, and it is contained in the November/December JCCT focus issue on Cardiac Structure: Valves.
"The writing group put together a truly useful document with up-to-date scientific data and clinically oriented specific recommendations which will maximize the diagnostic impact of computed tomography in the selection of candidates for transcatheter aortic valve replacement and in the preparation of the procedure," said Dr. Achenbach. "It can be expected that this will translate into better outcomes."
The document abstract can be viewed here, and is also listed in full on the SCCT website.
JCCT is a unique peer-review journal that integrates the entire international cardiovascular CT community including cardiologist and radiologists, from basic to clinical academic researchers, to private practitioners, engineers, allied professionals, industry, and trainees, all of whom are vital and interdependent members of our cardiovascular imaging community across the world. The goal of the journal is to advance the field of cardiovascular CT as the leading cardiovascular CT journal, attracting seminal work in the field with rapid and timely dissemination in electronic and print media.
