Dear Friends,
Margot participated in a panel on The Future of Bookstores at the Digital Book World conference this week.  Besides the irony of talking about physical bookstores in a world abuzz about clouds and devices and downloading... it was a fascinating discussion with esteemed fellow booksellers: Roxanne Coady/RJ Julia, Sara McNally/McNally Jackson and Bradley Graham/Politics and Prose.  While each bookstore serves their community in different ways, the bottom line is that we are thriving because we truly are part of the community.  In short, it is the human touch in a world increasingly driven by technology.  Why are we still here?  Because we've got great booksellers, great readers, great authors, and a small but oh-so-vibrant bookstore that pulls these all together!

What a great segue to introduce our visiting authors this week--

TONIGHT, January 16 at 7pm
Janine Marturano
Marturano will talk about integrating the vital practice of mindfulness - meditation and self-awareness - as a practical tool of management.  Find out how you can bring mindfulness into your daily leadership tasks.  Improve your innovation, vision and listening skills. Make better decisions!

Sims Wyeth
Wednesday, January 22, 7pm
Tired of clamming up in front of a roomful of colleagues, want to make an impact at the next conference?  Presentation Guru Sims Wyeth shares pointers with us that will bring us power and perspective to our presentation.

Raven Moore
Thursday, January 23, 7pm
MHS Alum, Georgetown Alum and now a veteran of the Peace Corp.  Raven Moore share her experiences in Cote d'Ivoire.  A young woman's observations of a life changed and ideas expanded.

And then in February, we are so excited to co-host with the Montclair Public Library Jan-Philipp Sendker on February 6th, at 2pm.  The author of one of our all-time favorite reads, The Art of Hearing Heartbeats, will be in the US to introduce his new book, A Well-Tempered Heart.  Join us for a special afternoon at the Library with a world-reknown author.

And we would be remiss in not sharing the new paperbacks that we are so excited about.  Some are releases we have been waiting for, and others are original paperbacks.

Enjoy! Margot, Carolyn, Marina, Nicole, Marisela, Liane and Jeanne

If you didn't notice the tall pile of this book in the last week, then you're missing out on one of the most beautiful, haunting, inventive tales we've read in a long time.  "...as emotionally engaging as it is intellectually provocative.." Washington Post.
Ben Schrank

The author of a classic self-help book begins to question his advice when prompted by a young reporter on the 50th anniversary of his book.  Smart, funny and hugely satisfying.
Paperback
Maira Konnikova

No fictional character is more renowned for his powers of thought and observation than Sherlock Holmes. Drawing on twenty-first-century neuroscience and psychology, Mastermind explores Holmes's unique methods of ever-present mindfulness, astute observation, and logical deduction. In doing so, it shows how each of us can employ these same methods to sharpen our perceptions, solve difficult problems, and enhance our creative powers. Paperback
Kate Atkinson

Another one at the top of our list.  An original and profound story of a woman who is born, dies and is reborn numerous times, each time in different circumstances, and each time trying to make the best of life.  Inventive and profound.
The Yellow Eyes of Crocodiles
Katherine Pancol

One of France's most irresistable writers - you are in for a treat.  "Thought Parisian women are perfect? Think again. A delicious treat about separation, sisterhood, and turning tables."
