Greetings!
It seems like every women's and home magazine has a way for you to live a clutter-free life. But I can tell you, one size does not fit all when it comes to organizing!
One client may want their shoes stored in pretty boxes, while a more visually-oriented client may prefer open shelving so that with just a glance, they can grab the shoes they want. Glossy magazines tend to show organization in a very staged way; in reality, many of the photos show organizing solutions that, although pretty, just don't work for most people! | | Which magazine holder works for you? |
For instance, a shelf full of magazines stored in beautiful magazine holders looks nice, but won't work for everyone. What if you are the type who wants to display magazines together, but also wants to easily find an issue without sorting through the whole bunch? A vertical wall hanger would be a better solution for you. My clients tell me that working with a professional organizer is much easier than following a magazine's advice on their own. I have worked with so many different clients and situations in the last 11 years that I've gained the insight it takes to customize a system that truly works for the individual. Who do you know that needs help organizing? Send them my way... no challenge is too big. Last month was Get Organized Month. What did you organize? I moved back into my office for the second time in six months...it was a great opportunity to purge unnecessary paperwork and recycle books I no longer needed. I had mentioned that I was on a mission to clear out excess "things" in my house this year. Well, I have been quite successful (in my own opinion)! So far, I have sold four window coverings, a wardrobe, and two antique shutters and made $450! This goes into my FUN Fund. I am running around looking for more stuff to sell! How are your 2013 organization goals shaping up?

January Paper Tip:
If you have piles of paper in your home or office, and don't know where to start in your organizing efforts, here are some tips: Go through the pile by sorting each item into two categories, "Keep" or "Trash." Now you can just work on organizing the "Keep" pile into the following categories: - Legal
 - Medical
- Financial
- Personal
When sorting magazines, pull out the articles you want to read. Read them...if you need them for reference, file or scan them, but throw out the magazine. If you really want to reduce magazine clutter, change your subscription to a digital format and read your magazine online. Ultimately, if you find you are not reading the magazine, do not renew it. Process your mail daily. The best way to deal with junk mail is to get your name off the junk mail list! I have been using Paper Karma , an amazing app. I have gotten my junk mail to less than TEN pieces per week! This works for all junk mail, except for mail from any company that you do business with.

| February Clutter Tip:
An Organized Entry Way
Organizing your entryway will give you a peaceful and functional space. "A place for everything and everything in its place" is a wonderful quote that especially applies here.
Whether you have a custom mudroom or your main entry is into your living room, think about what you have in your hands as you enter your home: keys, purse, tote bag, cell phone, etc. Now consider how you can properly store each item near the door. A flat surface near an outlet works great ... you can have a charging station for your phone and a bowl to drop your keys. Also, hooks to hang up coats and purses, and a basket for shoes helps you contain your shoes and prevents last minute panic attacks of "Darn! Where are my shoes???"

Electronics Tip:
Is your computer as organized as you are? Well it ought to be. I see computers with the desktop full with old files, documents, photos, and program shortcuts. These all slow down your machine, so remove everything you can. Move the photos to a specified photo folder. Delete the shortcuts you no longer use, and move documents to their proper place. You should be able to see your beautiful screen saver! I educate my clients to set up a filing system in their computer that mimics their paper files, using folders and sub-folders. This goes for documents as well as emails. When you are finished serving on a committee, job, or project, glance through your files and emails, delete the unnecessary, and move everything else into one folder. I keep a folder called "Previous Clients." When a project is completed, in it goes. The search feature is a great tool, so if you cannot easily locate something, "Search" for it!

Recent and Ongoing Projects:
I have been working with a very brave client who faced some difficult challenges in the last couple of years. During this time, she amassed a rather large collection of clothing and accessories.
Her collection ranges from size 8 to 20, with complete wardrobes in each size. We are discovering some great items that she hasn't been able to find, and some beautiful garments that can be sold. While we are sorting and deciding what to do with everything, we have been talking about how things got the way they are. I am just so impressed with her focus, quick decision-making, and clarity. Keep up the good work! Call us for a consultation. Refer a friend. I love referrals!
