HEBREW WORD OF THE WEEK WITH OUR SHINSHINIT, OPHIR
kif kef
Our fabulous Israeli emissary, Ophir Golombek, introduced the "Hebrew Word of the Week" to our students at lunch recess on Wednesday, with help from the members of her Kif Kef Hebrew Speaking Club. The word is "sababa" (adopted from Arabic) and it means "cool." Try using it with your children. They just might think you're "sababa" for using it.

A REQUEST FROM GAMES ROOM VOLUNTEER, CAROL KONKIN

To all young at heart,

I have been running the weekly lunchtime games room at the school for the past five years, alone for the past two years, and assisting other parent volunteers before. My daughter will be graduating this year and I will be moving on to other volunteering opportunities. I am seeking a replacement who can start anytime to get accustomed to the job.

We presently are in the Preschool 3 room on Tuesdays from 11:20am-12:30pm with a selection of games, puzzles and toys collected over the five year period. The room also provides access to some art supplies, fun building materials, a 'play' kitchen and a cozy corner. There is a fairly regular clientele of kids (approx. 30 - 35 each week) from grades 1-3, with another 5 - 10 or so from 4-6. The kids move in and out during the hour as their lunches are staggered.

This is a free play time where kids are encouraged to play, create and imagine. It's amazing to see what happens in games room. Grade 1 students master monopoly with a little guidance, space stations are built with rockets launched, and occasionally the older kids will snuggle together in the cozy corner and conduct their very own story time! These are just a few examples of the fun.

The volunteer has to love to play and provide game instruction when needed. Being able and prepared to supervise the kids in this type of environment is also required. The day of the week is flexible and the job can be shared.

Please contact me if you're interested. This is a very fulfilling PAC opportunity. I hope you'll consider it. I'm going to miss it.
