THANK YOU TALMUD TORAH!

sock drive

Grade 2 students collected around 350 toothbrushes, 200 tubes of toothpaste and 250 pairs of socks in their annual Sock Drive. Most was donated to the Jewish Food Bank and a portion was donated to the VTT Chesed Club for the baskets for the Syrian refugee families. Todah Rabah to all!
HEALTHY LIVING: A PRIMER

Healthy Living

January's Yachad theme was focused on briyut or healthy living. Thanks to the talents of VTT parent, Ayelet Vardi, the Grade 2s created this video to demonstrate all the ways we can all lead healthy, productive lives. Have a peek!

HOW DO YOU SPELL L-O-V-E?

R-O-B-B-I-E W-A-I-S-M-A-N!

Yesterday our Grade 7 students were blessed to meet VTT grandparent, Holocaust survivor, and co-founder of the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre, Robert Waisman. Robbie is also famous for being one of the Boys of Buchenwald. Despite an early life of unspeakable horrors, Robbie's message to our students was solely about LOVE and the gift of life. He urged our students to "cherish life" and to treat others with kindness and compassion.

On Wednesday we marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day. May those who perished be a blessing to us all.

TU B'SHEVAT 2016
tu bshevat
Tu B'Shevat Seders and fruit tastings in both bigger and smaller forums took place in various grades on Monday. Grade 3 spent some time at Pacific Spirit Park on a mini hike and sketched trees in honour of Israel's National Arbour Day. Grade 6 & 7 students were fortunate enough to enjoy freshly-made, on the spot smoothies, courtesy of some hard-working parent volunteers. Despite an injury, Dina Sacks came back to lead Tu B'Shevat-themed art projects with some classes.

Thanks to all the volunteers who shopped and sorted so that every student could enjoy a taste of this happy, tasty holiday!

YOUR DONATIONS WILL FIND NEW HOMES!
refugees
Thank you to all the VTT families that supported the Grade 7 Chesed Club initiatives this month!
We collected and delivered many welcome baskets for Syrian refugees to the Immigrant Services Society of BC. We will be bringing the boxes and bags full of kitchen appliances and dishes, linens and clothing to Eversafe Ranch Outreach Society.
MEET OUR GRADE 7 HOUSE TEAM LEADERS
team leads
From the moment a student enters Kindergarten at Vancouver Talmud Torah, s/he is assigned to one of our four house teams: Moshe, David, Devorah & Esther. This year, eight seventh grade students have been elected to represent each house team and support and encourage their team members (in Grades 1-7) to be the best they can be, whether in competitive sport, on the playground, in the classroom, or around the school. Mazal tov to Maya McNamara, Vida Sussman, Max Laskin, Keren Katz, Ollie Abro, Jacob Merkur, Jonah Ezekiel and Ilana Guez for their new responsibilities.
