ANNUAL GRADE 2 SOCK, TOOTHBRUSH & TOOTHPASTE DRIVE
It is a Grade 2 annual tradition to collect NEW socks, toothbrushes and toothpaste to help those less fortunate than us. The collection will be given to Jewish Women International and the Jewish Food Bank to be distributed through these organizations.
The drive runs from now until Monday, February 1st.
Last year 300 NEW PAIRS of socks were collected. Help second graders exceed this goal this year!
Special thanks to VTT parent and dentist, Dr. Sherri Wise and her daughter Eden, for getting us started with a substantial donation of dental hygiene products.

PRAYERS FOR HEALING NEEDED
Yesterday afternoon, our beloved Gregoria, one of the kitchen helpers for Jewcy Cuisine for the last several years, had a serious medical emergency. She is not out of the woods yet; please include Gregoria in your misheberach (healing) prayers over Shabbat. We extend our support to her dear friend (and fellow kitchen helper), Rosie. These two women give so much to VTT. Everyone's prayers are needed!

2) Eversafe Ranch Outreach Society
This organization provides support to families who due to unforeseen circumstances have to start again from scratch. They are either living in a shelter, transitioning from a shelter to secondary housing, or making that final leap to a new place of their own. In most cases the families they serve have nothing but the clothes on their backs.
- Donations can be brought in small boxes or bags:
- Small appliances such as: microwaves, toasters, and coffee makers
- Housewares such as: pots and pans, utensils, dishes, glasses and mugs
- Towels and linens
- New cleaning supplies and tools (brooms, dustpan, etc.)
- Toys, puzzles, and games for children
- Gas, grocery, or entertainment gift-cards
**Grade 7 Chesed Club students will be accepting donations in the parkade and front foyer of the school next week on Mon, Tues, and Thursday (January 18, 19 & 21) at both morning and afternoon drop offs. Donations will also be accepted at Wednesday's Seussical Rehearsal.

Expanding our perspective and embracing a positive attitude
As able bodied people, it is easy to take the world around us for granted. Yesterday, 23-year old motivational speaker Jessica Kruger visited our Grade 7 students to share her very personal story of losing the ability to freely move about when an accident left her a quadriplegic at age 15. Despite many trials and tribulations--as well as some serious health complications--Jessica graduated from SFU with a major in English, is the only female player on BC's provincial wheelchair rugby team, was the first "disable d" model for cosmetics giant, Lise Watier, runs a cake decorating business (http://alittlesomethingsweet.ca), has travelled all over the world, and is a speaker for the Rick Hansen Foundation. She also works for BC Wheelchair Sports and tutors English, when she has spare time. Her current goal? To make Canada's national wheelchair rugby team!
And what was Jessica's opinion of our students? She was impressed by their excellent questions--thoughtful, inquisitive, sensitive--more so than any other organization she has visited. Kol Ha'Kavod! (And if you're curious about the challenges of flying, traveling, and eating out in restaurants in a wheelchair, our Grade 7s have some of the answers.)

Roots & Wings Havdallah Evening--A VTT First!
Every year our students create outstanding family history projects, otherwise known as Roots & Wings. For the first time ever, we gave families the opportunity to see ALL the projects, not just those of their children. Last Saturday night, over 200 people crowded into the old gym to mark the separation between Shabbat and the rest of the week (havdallah) and to hear excerpts from students' projects. A special thank you to Morah Lisa and Morah Ellen for facilitating the prayers and songs. Click on the collage above to see more photos.

Reinforcing the Concepts As part of their science unit, students recreated the digestive system on t-shirts--a sure way to remember the material!
