Did you know that Myanmar (formerly Burma) was once home to thousands of Jews? Did you realize that the capital, Yangon, even has a synagogue (once boasting 126 Torah scrolls)? Today, the community numbers a mere 20 people. Read about Moses Samuels who preserved the shul and other aspects of Jewish communal life until his death earlier this year.

Good luck, Ms. Steeves!

Tomorrow we bid adieu to VTT's Grade 7 science teacher and school counsellor, Marina Steeves, as she begins her maternity leave. The entire VTT community wishes her an easy birth.
Early Years Open House
On Tuesday, we held Remembrance Day/Kristallnacht assemblies to acknowledge both the sacrifices made and lives lost in the name of freedom. Grade 3 students led the primary assembly and Grade 6 students (under the guidance of Ms. Davey and Morah Rachel) led the intermediate assembly. As befitting such gatherings, students comported themselves in a most respectful and solemn manner.

remembrance day

Today the Grade 4 and Grade 7 chesed clubs joined forces to meet KDHS alum, Aaron Friedland, the founder of The Walking School Bus. Aaron, joined by his classmate Ali, a native of Rwanda who had to walk 1.5 hours each way to school every day, is spearheading an initiative to purchase used school buses for three interfaith (Jewish, Christian, Muslim) schools in Uganda. Aaron is also trying to flip education on its head to allow for better access for students in developing countries.

If you want to raise awareness about inequality in education with the goal of flipping it on its head, take a photo of your handstand with the hashtag #TWSBflipsaccess2ed and post on your social media platform.
