KOL HA'KAVOD KUDOS KORNER

This year's Welcome Back Coffee was beautifully organized by our three PAC Coordinators: Jordana Dodek, Gretchen DuMoulin and Nicolle Wade. Over 100 parents stayed after school to meet, greet, catch up and get to know. The catering was courtesy of Marat and Ella Dreyshner of ikosherbake.comThank you to the aforementioned individuals for a wonderful first day back! We would also like to thank Stacey Levitt, Lori Braha and Candice Thal for organizing the Rosh Hashanah honey and challah sales. The response was tremendous and we thank these women for their hard work.

SHANA TOVA TO THE ENTIRE VTT COMMUNITY!
WISHING EVERYONE A SWEET NEW YEAR

THE 2015-16 SCHOOL YEAR IS OFF TO A GREAT START!
On Wednesday morning, eager parents and students arrived bright and early to our r efreshed and renewed premises for a promising start to the 2015-16 school year. The wider hallways, brighter colour scheme, windowed doors. new lockers and renovated bathrooms in the primary wing were a welcome surprise for all. These changes are all in anticipation of the opening of our expanded campus next September. For those of you who have not yet seen the renovations, see the photo collage below.

There are many people to thank for their Herculean efforts to get the school ready in time for Wednesday's opening. Our facilities and operations manager, Sydney Antao, and his custodial team of Lito, Rose, Amador, Jaime, Pedro and Fermin worked night and day cleaning, organizing and moving to prepare the school. Our administrative team of Tammy, Debbie, Lihe and Natalie worked through many unexpected transitions during the summer and kept the office running despite the surprises. Our IT team of Marko and Boaz had the challenging task of managing and re-imaging 250 computers and laptops and a bank of 60 iPads, in addition to all the networking issues. This is an impressive accomplishment in the hands of only two individuals. Of course, most of our faculty came in weeks ahead of the start of school to organize, set up and decorate their classrooms as well as put the finishing touches on their lessons plans. Yishar Ko'ach to all involved in preparing Talmud Torah for opening day 2015! Wider, brighter, cleaner and more colourful--what's not to like?

WEEKLY TORAH PORTION/PARASHAT HA'SHAVUAH
We are pleased to be able to share our students'
divrei Torot (Torah commentaries) with our community. Last week, Moselle Levy (daughter of Marc Levy and Pola Litsky) celebrated her Bat Mitzvah at Schara Tzedeck. She chose to comment on the concept of Teshuvah in anticipation of the Jewish new year.
A Bat Mitzvah is an age-old tradition to learn and teach some Torah in honor of becoming a Bat Mitzvah. I have chosen the subject of Teshuvah (which means REPENTANCE) because Rosh Hashanah is only a week away and that is the beginning of the 10 days of Repentance or in Hebrew the Aseret Yeh-may Teshuva עשרת ימי תשובה. We will review some of the concepts of Teshuva through the structure of Who, What, When and Why. And we will also try to use real examples or case studies from the news or reality television that will help us demonstrate the points. This may not be exactly PG, parental guidance may be required. Children should be aware that some of these cases are not suitable for children or even adults, but hopefully we can learn from their mistakes.
