MESSAGE FROM OUR PAC

As the year comes to an end, we want to thank you for supporting the PAC during its first year.  We feel inspired by all of the dedicated parents in our community and are proud of all the wonderful things we accomplished together.

We are pleased to announce that Jordana Dodek, Gretchen DuMoulin and Nicolle Wade have volunteered to be PAC Coordinators for next year.  We are grateful that they have stepped up to continue to lead and strengthen this important parent body.  We look forward to working with them and supporting them in the year to come.

We have so many gifted parents with different skills and talents at our school and we hope to see even more of you join us at the PAC. Together we can enrich our children's education and build a strong, inclusive and supportive VTT community.  A sign up sheet with PAC volunteer opportunities for next year will follow in the next few days.

Have a wonderful and relaxing summer!

Jessica and Sharon

siyyum
It takes three dedicated Kindergarten teachers, four aides, one Hebrew specialist, one learning specialist and one music specialist to create a Kindergarten Siyyum (conclusion) ceremony that is meaningful, memorable and highly entertaining. Kol Ha'Kavod to all!

Our Grade 7 students left for Strathcona Park and Lodge, north of Campbell River, last Sunday morning for a week long adventure of learning, growing, bonding and personal challenge. They returned to Vancouver today with wide grins and full hearts. For the last 35 years, VTT has been sending its graduates to Strathcona to culminate their (ten) years of learning at Talmud Torah. There is no better way for our students to conclude their education at our school. Kudos to Meghan Davey, Sally Piccinato, Lisa Romalis, Marko Milisavljevic, Keri Smith, Fred Cohen and Joe Claudio for taking full responsibility for them for the week.

Guess these shirts won't make it to the uniform sale . . .

It's a VTT tradition for students to sign each other's shirts on the last day of school. Wonder why they look so happy? (Photo credit: Michelle Gilman)

kavana

KavanArt was a small size group workshop for Grade 6 and 7 during minyan on Monday mornings. We broke away from the traditional minyan routine and had the opportunity to explore, reflect and share personal interpretation of prayers in a hevruta (peer) learning. This meaningful experience concluded with an artistic expression session with Dina Sacks, our dedicated art expert, who worked with each group on creating a collaborative art piece for each of the following prayers: Shema, Shmone-Esreh, Birkot Hashachar and Adon Olam.

These beautiful panels will be hung in the new campus.

Here are some photos from the actual workshop.
WEEKLY TORAH PORTION/PARASHAT HA'SHAVUAH

We are pleased to be able to share our students'
divrei Torot (Torah commentaries) with our community. Last Sunday, Keren Katz(daughter of Colin and Lihe Katz) celebrated her Bat Mitzvah in Richmond. She commented on the Book of Ruth.

I decided to study the Book of Ruth in honour of my Bat Mitzvah. The reason I decided to study the Book of Ruth is because it took place in a time that is my hebrew birthday: Shavuot. I'm going to give you a quick summary of The story of Ruth, followed by the main message that stood out to me in the book of Ruth, which will remain with me forever. Unfortunately, the Book of Ruth begins with three tragic deaths: Ruth's father in law, brother in law and her husband. Naomi, Ruth's mother in law, decided to move back to the place she previously lived: Beit Lechem. Naomi pleaded with Ruth that she should go and make a life for herself and get remarried. But Ruth who was a princess, refused, leaving all of her riches and honour to be with Naomi. She made a life changing decision deciding to convert. She gave up and sacrificed everything to be close to G-d, because she truly believed in the Jewish religion. This is one of the many reasons she inspires me.
